Hello experts....

I've been following for quite a while.. I have been utilizing all of your expertise, and have requested quotes for a hand forged setting from vc, lm, sk & erd. I was actually surprised that erd came in at the same price as vc. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I thought they were a bit more budget friendly than the others?

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated. I am setting a 3.03 wide table cut oval in a halo/ split shank platinum.

If that is the case, what are you waiting for, go with the Victor his work is amazing and he is a lovely genuine guy as well!!!!

I really have no clue but maybe because it's after Valentine's day, christmas time and things may have slowed down to where demand is less so price can become more online with ERD? I agree with the poster who said - wow! go with Mr. Canera. Unless LM and others come in lower! please post a picture or two when you are done, it will be gorgeous I am sure.

Good, makes it an easy decision to go with Victor!

Curious, but can you post some prices for settings when you contacted all these people?

I am gonna be needing a settings soon as well. Thanks.

I have to agree with the others...this makes it easier just to go with VC.

Was the ERD quote for their handforged bench?

I'm going to go with yes since in her inital post she said she asked for hand forged quotes. At least that is how I read it Charmy.

OP we usually recommend ERD, their CAD/CAST rings for ppl who want a quality ring but can't and/ or don't want to pay for hand forged pricing. If you ask for hand forged across all 4 vendors they should be pretty close as you are now comparing apples to apples. CAD/ CAST vs. hand forged is comparing apples to oranges so ERD would have come in much lower.

thanks for the responses... yes i asked for hand forged across the board. I guess i had expected t be paying up for the bigger names and getting a better deal due to lack of name... similar to the mark up on tacori vs other manufacturers.

i am more than happy to post comparisons on prices when all quotes are in... is this frowned upon? i don't want to upset anyone. I really enjoy reading and learning from the folks on this site.

hand forged is hand forged, doesn't matter who does it, it will be expensive across the board.

Typically we don't post exact dollar amounts for quotes but give generalizations or say who was most expensive vs who came in at the lowest price for several reasons.
1- Quotes will get based off many factors (metal, center stone size, melee, sides stones etc) so you don't want to give others a false sense of what a setting may or may not cost because there is so much variation.
2- I personally think it is sort of tacky to post pricing....but totally personal preference

I am curious how SK compared? I just got quotes this week from him and ERD hand forged and there was a significant difference in price. I have seen actual quotes posted on PS but it is probably more appropriate to give % differences, like LM was highest at xx% more than the lowest (as an example). Prices change and vary so much by diamond size that it probably isn't fair to share actual quotes. Ranges are helpful too. That is just my opinion though

I think it's helpful to know approximate prices. For example: x vendor was mid 4000's, y vendor was high 3000's, z vendor was over 6000 etc

Hi,

While there will be variations in design, it is also useful for PS to have some idea of actual cost. This is what makes for competition
among vendors as well. I don't think there is anything tacky about it. We all share the cost of diamonds without it being deemed tacky. They are a vendor and full disclosure is needed.

I agree with the above posters, please share the quotes or at least approximations.

Thanks

I'm new here, but SB621 has a point. Exact quotes can be misleading - every quote is dependent on many factors and circumstances. I've been looking into a multiple vendors for a custom halo ring. After reading about a certain vendor on here, who many have testified does great work but also has a reputation for being on the high end of the CAD/CAST production, I expected that for my ring project that they would be one of the highest. I went ahead and asked for a quote, and turns out, they were one of the lowest. So it really depends, and giving exact quotes without every last detail might paint some vendors in unfair light.

I found similarities between vendors when it came to hand-forged quotes (including VC & ERD).
