Engraving platinum after getting the ring?

Not sure if this is a question with an obvious answer or not so apologies in advance! lol

A friend of mine is about to get engaged (little does she know! hehe) and her boyfriend told me he found a platinum setting that is just perfect, fits his diamond, etc. The problem is, both sides of the shank are completely bare other than some miligrain work on the edges. He wants to add an engraved design on both sides and wasn''t sure who/how he could go about this. What are his options?

As far as I know, hand engraving is done after the ring is cast and polished. So basically your friend can add whatever design he wants to the ring.
