Engraving an Antique Signet Ring

Hello!

I am new to this site so hopefully someone will be able to help me.

I have just bought an 18k yellow gold Edwardian Signet ring. When purchasing the ring the jeweler offered a deal for engraving the ring from a talented hand engraved in my city.

I was wondering is it a bad idea to engrave an antique signet ring? Will it depreciate the value of the ring? Should I keep it all original and untouched?

Of course you should have it engraved!
It was made for engraved initials or some other design.
After all these years, I think it deserves an inscription!

I think they look odd without initials on them
i wonder the back story that we will never know why it doesn't have engraving ?

I do not think you adding initials will effect the value or authenticity of the ring in any way and im sure the young engraver will know to write in an appropriate font for the age of the ring

I think I will get it engraved then. As it was was made in Edinburgh in 1901amd I am Scottish I'm thinking a traditional Unicorns head.
