personally I like the idea of giving something that he won''t just replace in two or five years ... but that''s just me
yeah.....his wife.

Lol! Yes ... that too! (Although as an aside, my mom always tells my dad he''s on a one year renewal contract

I meant more likely something heirloom-y or jeweler-y or a watch or something, rather than an iPod which will get chucked out in a few years. I like the idea that if one day I give my fiance a gift that he will still have it when we''re 50 (and not because he''s waiting till he can say to the grandkids, "Look, this used to be the hippest way to listen to music in MY day!")

I got my husband a really nice movado watch which he lost about 2 years later! I was so upset because to me, it the watch symbolized our engagement, and for him to be so careless with it.......You never see me lose my engagement ring!

You get ME silly!
Actually, I'm thinkin that the engagement ring is rooted in a sexist tradition...women were treated like property...it's like branding your cattle, no? LOL.... I'll take the biggest branding iron they got!

I''ve been looking at Tag Heuer watches for him as an engagement gift, bf saw some online and said they were cool, and then last week he falls in love with a skagen watch that costs less than a $100!!! He says thats what he wants..???...OK, cause I got my exhusband a Gameboy back in ''92 as a wedding gift and he was thrilled

Hey, be happy he wants that Skagen. I have this $125 Skagen watch. It''s awesome. Since I have atrocious taste in style, I like it b/c I''m always getting unsolicited compliments about it. I wear an Omega Constellation Chronometer everyday, but that''s only cuz it''s an automatic watch and if I don''t wear it everyday, it stops. Otherwise, I''d wear teh Skagen more. Since he wants the Skagen and hasn''t bought the Tag yet, get him the Skagen and you''ll have more money for your wedding!

I have been flip flopping on something to buy my boyfriend as an engagement gift -- i wanted to buy a Rolex, he said NO WAY! He doesn''t like to wear jewelry (although i said wearing the wedding ring will be non-negotiable!) so he didn''t want that. SOOOO i thought about buying a beautifully made high-end swiss army knife type thing and have it engraved -- being an outdoorsy handy kind of guy i thought it would be awesome. He said he has one somewhere although i''ve never seen it............

so i thought i have to buy an engagement gift and a wedding gift -- my ring will be a 2.63 Royal Asscher and my wedding gift will be 2ct. matching Royal Asscher studs (1ct each) so i wanted to get something meaningful yet kind of pricey -- he thinks guy get the short end of the stick in terms of wedding/engagement gifts. SO I want to get him a 55" Sony Wega HD flatscreen tv for engagement, and then get the sentimental engraved knife as a wedding gift. I know he said he has one, but i think i''m going to get it any way!!

that''s where i''m at with the boy gifts!!!
