Just to be devils advocate... you don't have to have custom rings, and you don't HAVE to have flush fit. The fact the stone isn't too big means the gap would be minute.

just from a personal perspective, I like when they aren't exactly flush fit...

Yep, that's true! I probably would like it too. (Although I've never worn more than one ring on a finger in my life. ) But both perspectives are something to consider, OP.
