Engagement ring prices per country?

Hello,
I am about to start looking at an engagement ring for my fiancée. I am on a low budget.
I was wondering if prices differ per country / city.
It turns out that within the next month or so I will be in: Israel, California and Paris.
Would you say that one of those places is a better place to look into? Does it matter?

Thanks

Buy from an online retailer.

If you post what you're preferences are and your budget, we can help you.

Paris and the rest of Europe are very expensive. Diamonds seem to be less expensive in the US than most other Western countries though most people on here don't shop at brick and mortar stores so it's hard to compare directly.

So overall you would recommend buying from a US-based online retailer?
Any recommendations? I know she wants a white gold.
Here is the style she likes:

Can I get something for $1 000?

What about Israel? Ever heard of how the market it there?

Well, those are completely different styles. They both have diamonds on the shank though. Would she be happy with either? Is your budget of $1000 for only the setting, or the setting and the diamond?

She'd be happy with both styles. She likes the white, I assume she likes the diamonds on the sides, and she said she likes when the diamond is a bit higher up.
$1000 is my total budget - is it too restraining?

Do you know of a good website to order from?

James Allen and Blue Nile are two popular websites with good prices.

You could do this setting:

With this diamond:

Here are some other settings:

http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=42_43&products_id=10025&cType=ER
http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=42_44&products_id=10116&cType=ER
(You can also get your diamond from ID Jewelry - many PSers have had good experiences with them, especially when on a budget.)

Or if you were okay with a plain setting:

With this diamond:

Honestly though I think you should get this one: http://diamondbistro.com/category/216/Natural-Diamond-Center/listings/30504/A-Jaffe-JSI1-bezel-18k-diamond-ring-size-5-525.html It is a bigger diamond, with diamonds on the band, by a good designer. It does have some elements you weren't looking for, but it's really beautiful. But I'm not sure how much the ring could be size so you'd have to know if her ring size was close. And pay for the sizing and the tightening of the prongs on the melee.

Thank you!
I'm going to look at all those links.

About sizes, she used a tool to measure and on the correct ring were those numbers:
16.2
5=
51
11

Not sure what they all mean.

It looks like she's about a 5 and a half ring size US, which is an 11 in Japan and approximately 51 in Great Britain. I think 16.2 is the interior diameter of the ring.

So the A. Jaffe ring we both linked to would be pretty close to the right size.

$2000 seems too steep for me.
How do you determine which diamond goes well with which setting?

I like the setting that you picked, but the shank divides as it gets closer to the diamond. I think this is going to make the 1/3 carat stone look small. I assume that's the diamond that you're thinking about? The .30 J?

There are some types of settings that will make diamond looks larger, such as the bezel that was posted, and halos will as well. Shanks that are wider at the back and get narrower at the stone will make the diamond look larger. Multiple prongs are likely to overwhelm the diamond as are prongs that are large.

What size does your girlfriend wear?

You might want to contact James Allen and see if they have a picture of that ring with a smaller diamond in the .30 range you are looking at. If you look towards the bottom of that page they have pictures of the ring with different diamonds in it. They might have some more that aren't on the site.

You can also look through the under 1ct thread in the show me the bling forum. It's 60 pages and most of the diamonds are over .5 ct but there are some that are not. There is a .27 on the first page. That should give you a better idea of what a .30 diamond might look like.

Are you opposed to a secondhand engagement ring? You can get a lot more bang for your buck that way.

My favorite is the one from the bistro though. It's a large diamond in a bezel, which will make it look larger, and has side diamonds. It's a very good deal and a great way to stretch your budget.

When you first posted examples of what she liked, I thought of A Jaffe rings. And then the other posters found one!

Would it go well with the diamond you recommended from this same website? It goes a bit over my budget, but if she likes it...

By subtracting the setting price from $1000 and looking in that price range.

If she likes that setting best and you can swing it with the .3 or .44, then go for it. Be sure to remember that you get a Pricescope discount on the diamond - that will save you a little bit of money.

The James Allen site says that .5 cts is the minimum size diamond for that setting. A lot of the settings are going to be like that. You have to click on "additional information".

I really suggest second hand unless you can go to $2000.

Thanks for all the advices while I was sleeping!!
I will process all of this information now and see what I can do.
Thanks
