Hi everyone,

I have been with my girlfriend for almost 6 years and I want to propose to her in the next 6 months. I have researched online and in store and have decided on a three diamond setting. Her ring size is 6 and we live in Australia and will probably buy online.

The budget for the ring is ~14k. I am looking for a round shape diamond with at least VS2 clarity, ideal cut, and at least G colour. I'm a little more flexible on the size as long as the total price is within the budget. I'm not really sure about the center stone, but i'd much prefer the ring to look balanced with the side stones (so thinking around 1.2c for the center stone and 0.5 sides).

Besides the 4Cs, i'm not really sure on how to interpret the other statistics (depth, table, etc). I am also not sure on how to evaluate the diamond pictures that accompany the diamond certificate.

The following settings I have been looking at:

http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/3-stone-diamond-engagement-ring-1422.htm

Hopefully, some of you can help me out by offering me some advice and/or diamond/setting suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Chris,

I would stick with WhiteFlash especially since you are buying from out of the country and returns are a pain. WF provides so much more information on their stones! I think G or H will be fine, but naturally G is a little whiter than H. I guess it just depends on how color sensitive she is. Both of the stones you linked are gorgeous! I'll take a look in a few minutes and see if I see any others.

Thank you so much for your help.

Do you think that a center stone of 1.25 will have good proportions to 0.5 sides on a size 6 ring?

The only pictures I have seen so far has been with 1ct or less center stones.

Thanks again,

Chris

Those sides are .25 each, so they will be more like accent stones. An option is get two side stones in the .40 to .50 range which will have a little more impact but costs more, of course. But I do think the 1.2 to 1.25 would be totally fine in that setting that already has the side stones.

I like the mental aspect that the 1.26 reaches the 7mm mark, but I would have to have someone at WF look at both stones at the same time and tell me if one was whiter than the other and if one is more eyeclean than the other from top and sides. That would be the only way to decide between these two stones. Both are excellent choices!

Hi DiamondSeeker2006,

I just wanted to thank you for your help!

I ended up going with the 1.26ct diamond, 0.25ct sides and 6.25 size ring.

We had a couple of hiccups with the international wire transfer but other than that, WF were great to deal with.

The ring looks great and I proposed last week.

Attached is a photo.

Thanks again,

Chris
