Hi all,
I have just started on the journey to obtain an engagement ring for my beloved girlfriend. Having been steered to PS from my internet searches, I have been busily reading through the guides available and the various posts here. So a big thank you to all in this wonderful community for sharing their knowledge and experiences.
So far I have decided on buying a round brilliant diamond through the listings on PS and pairing it with a slim petite Torchiere from Mark Morrell.
I have also settled on the following requirements for the diamond, with the max budget being USD ~$5k.
Cut: GIA Excellent / AGS Ideal 0
Size: up to 1ct
Clarity: VVS1 - VS2
Colour: D - G
From the current listings the best one matching the criteria above looks to be a 0.848ct G VS1 from Victor Canera (https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/ags104087777002-0.848-g-vs1-ideal-hearts-arrows-round). The idealscope and asetscope images look great and it's also a H&A diamond. HCA value is 1.1. The only issue I have is that the AGS report states "Surface graining is not shown".
I have done some reading on this matter and most point towards this being a none issue. But I just wanted to confirm with the community if this is still something that should be verified by a gemologist. I plan to have the diamond appraised by David Atlas or AGA prior to it being sent to MM.
My alternate is this 0.806ct F VS1 Expert Selection from Whiteflash (http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3769786.htm?source=pricescope). HCA is 1.3.
Your thoughts on the surface graining and choices would be most welcome.
Thank you.
Regards,
Alf
