Hi,

After months of research I''ve finally bought a diamond and now I''m just trying to finalise the design of the ring.

The diamond is a 0.81 H SI1 VG/EX/EX, see GIA report here

I''ve decided on yellow gold because my girlfriend wears only yellow gold.

However, I''m still trying to decide between whether the setting is yellow gold or white gold.

The features of the ring are:

- 6 claw setting
- speared shoulders with total of 30 points of diamonds
- little circles (still not sure about these)
- grooves on the sides

here''s the one with yellow gold

and here''s the one with white gold

Hello. My soon to be fiance and I are building my engagement ring as well and our diamond was purchased last week. I know exactly how long it takes to find a good one. In my opinion, the prongs on a diamond should always be white gold, platinum or other white color. This will only add to the sparkle of the diamond instead of yellow gold prongs which may infact give your diamond a yellow hue. Since your diamond is H in color, I would definatly go for the white gold prongs even though your soon to be fiance only wears yellow gold. Good luck! Congrats to you and your girlfriend!

I have had an all yellow gold ring, including the prong head which you are now confuse about. I now wear an all yellow gold semi bezel ring and here are my thoughts.

IF I could have done it all over again with my first prong setting I would have opted to go with plat head and the yellow gold shank as in your second picture. Your GF won't really see any difference on the head really if you go with plat head or white gold, it will somewhat blend in with the diamond, and the yellow gold shank is still in bulk of what she will see.

Semi bezels are different and I like mine all one color, but when prongs are involved, I tend to like the head to be white, unless it was a fancy color or gemstone that needs a little help from the surrounding metal color.

Since you are designing this setting from scratch have you taken into consideration how the wedding band will sit? Will it rub against the bumps on the sides?
