first off, thanks to all the people that contribute to this site, I've read a lot and learned a lot from all the contributors. Glad I didn't go blindly buy a ring from a local jeweler. In fact I took some of the informaiton learned here, went to a local place and the sales person dismissed my requiriments, stating that GIA excellent was good enough. I left.

Anyway, here is the setting I picked out:

I wanted to stay under $15k for the diamond and as close to 2 CT as possible, but I want something to sparkle and shine.
here is one ring that seems to fit the bill, but would like some thoughts.

thanks in advance

Setting Looks nice! I think that stone would look very nice in it and be eyeclean and sparkle!

Are you open to I color? That's what I have and it faces up very white. You'll get a lot more size for your money if so.

The stone is nice, but it is a little deeper than what I would like to see, which in turn causes it to face up smaller. As others have asked - are you open to I color? You will get more bang for your buck. Lastly, did she tell you that she likes that/similar setting? I am not sure what your intended's age is, but this setting says "dated" and "80s" to me, I wouldn't call it antique at all. It just seems bulky and rough. I think that you are better off putting the 2K toward the stone versus this setting and getting a cheaper and more delicate setting.

I know this wouldn't make sense at first, because you are going down to a lower color and clarity for the same price, but this stone appears to be super eye-clean and it has an ideal cut. Notice the outer diameter at 7.9mm: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3817248.htm. If you ever decide to upgrade, this will be a stone easy to upgrade as well.

Wow, thanks for the replies.
an I would be fine with me, but I don't think I want to go down to a J in a white setting.

I like the feedback about the setting, that is exactly why I posted on here. We are older and she like the more vintage style. Maybe keep the ring more plane and look for a wedding band that reflects that style?

I really like the diamond SimonDi pointed out.

Does it make sense to buy the setting and diamond from the same place?

This stone is a fantastic option! Really good looking SI and about as good as you can do for the money in that size range. OP - I suggest you call WF to put it on hold before it is scooped up.

Definitely recommend getting the setting from WF as well

Tophat1 and Simone hit the nail on the head for you.
Great ACA from WF, and get the setting from them also.
Good luck.

For a more antique look you might go with Cvb...(however, it is easier to stick with the same vendor, I'm just not finding anything I would call antique-y).
(If you wanted CVB to do make a setting for you, you would have to talk to them then you could have WF send the stone to CVB).

ctyke, I am glad that you are considering that stone. I would really put it on hold asap, there are lurkers on this site. You can always change your mind even if you put it on hold.
Regarding the setting, if you want to stick with the same vendor, I would pick their Butterflies setting and have them set it with two matching H color side stones at 0.25ct each, or 0.5ctw. Else, if you really want a vintage-looking setting. I would go with CvB, her designs are gorgeous. Or, if that would push you over budget, David Klass is a good alternative as well, I really like his work. I would also pick these as side stones:https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3402091.htm
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3222834.htm (I would also select these as side stones for the butterflies setting, unless an uncertified 0.5ct H color ACA pair would be cheaper).

I tried to contact them, I'm guessing they are closed today. I'll try first thing in the morning. Maybe Simone and tophat could remove the links to the diamond?

I will do more searching on the setting, but I really like some of the CVB settings that tyty mentioned.

You can just place an order and pick "wire" as the payment. That would reserve the stone. I would not wait.

Done. Thank you!

That's a great price! And a lovely stone. And eye clean, with mostly clear inclusions on the 40x whiteflash image at first glance. Agree with others that sample is one of the better ones.

Well done for putting it on hold. Certified by AGS in March 2017 so it hasn't been around long!

Whiteflash are great to deal with. I'm a happy repeat customer.

Yes, I wish this stone had been around 4 months ago. I ended up with a WF ACA 1.84 VS2 I color for about $2K more. I couldn't find any SIs that looked this good! But alas, I love my stone!

Hi all, I just wanted to give thanks again for everyone's guidance and show the final setting. Since I purchased the diamond from Whiteflash, I had them do a custom ring for me. Here it is!
