Hello all, thanks in advance for all your advice.

I've been doing research on my own for months. My time frame is a few months to a year. I plan to buy the diamond and set it separately on a setting of her choice. I am a big fan of Lab Grown Diamonds but I'm very worried about undisclosed haze. Clean Origins just opened a store close to where I live and they have a 100 day return policy.

I would love some advice on the cut of the diamond and the light performance. Should I be getting ASET reports for them? Would the store be able to provide those for me? or do i have to sent it off myself? Or should i just buy HCA keys and enter my candidates into them to get the highest score first as another screening tool?

I followed the Diamond Proportions Chart and found some All Around Near Tolkowsky candidates:

Here are my current candidates:

#1 - https://www.cleanorigin.com/round-lab-created-diamond-07c040152f43/?qty=1

#2 - https://www.cleanorigin.com/round-lab-created-diamond-baf481ff5d40/?qty=1

#3 - https://www.cleanorigin.com/round-lab-created-diamond-0e4fd509e182/?qty=1

#4 - https://www.cleanorigin.com/round-lab-created-diamond-c33b2f98421b/?qty=1

I'm leaning towards #3 but I'm by no means attached to these should other better candidates come up. My goal is to buy a super ideal cut with great light performance 2 carats+ lab grown diamond.

We have a lab forum for lab-grown diamonds. They are pretty knowledgeable over there on things specific to Lab stones.
I'll ask that this thread gets moved.

Here is the forum:

This thread will probably be moved to the LGD/MMD subforum.

Of all four, I like #1 the best.
It's an HPHT with no post-growth treatment.

Should i remake it there? or can a Mod move it to that forum?

so sorry, i thought i posted in the right forum.

No worries...this happens - a mod will move it for us.

Agreed. Video of #1 looks very nice!

@DejaWiz I'm curious about your thoughts on CVD stones. I notice you always prefer HPHT. Can you link some sources to help inform my perspective on this? Thanks-Michael

For me, personally, striation (growth graining that usually can't be seen without high magnification or polarization) bugs me.

Post-growth treatment to force a better color and clarity: usually a sign of a purposely sped up "cheated" grown process.

From what I read in previous posts: lots of CVD growers cropping up all over the world, and many are reusing old throw-away CVD equipment. And many aren't appropriately cleaning the equipment adequately, leading to contaminated growth chamber environments.

There's also some issues with HPHT growers, but that is usually a result of tinkering with the process rather than outright neglecting the much more expensive equipment and, thankfully, those issues are few and far between and easy to spot (blue nuance, green nuance, excessive metallic inclusions, etc) in comparison to the sheer volume of CVD with PGT diamonds that seem to be flooding the market lately.

I’m very new at this and don’t have anything super constructive to add other than I love the smaller table on #4! I’m biased though and personally prefer rounds with a smaller table. #1 should be brilliantly beautiful as well!

So once i'm on to the stage of scrutinizing the stone. How do I do it?

Do i ask them to have it in store for me to inspect and bring my own ASET and if it looks good buy it? Or would my own novice not be good enough to be able to judge it and i should just as for a certificate?

I think it's a great idea to request for them to bring in the diamond(s) in question for you to see in person. Read the article below to familiarize yourself with what to look for in an ASET and purchase a scope to look at them yourself. Additionally, if you can take pictures, people here will advise you about what they see.
