So I''ve finally muddled through getting the diamond I want and it has just hit me that I need a setting!!!! So my questions are:

1) Should I get it from the same people I buy the diamond from (any price advantages/leverage)? (I''m ordering online so therefore I won''t be able to see the loose diamond - is this a valid concern?)

2) What''s with a name brand setting (ex. Vatche) vs. a ''knock-off'', besides lower prices? Is it worth it?

3) Platinum vs. white gold - the definitive answer (yeah right) - which one is better?

4) How much is the average white-gold (or platinum) setting - trying for Tiffany''s Lucida replica?

Thanks - I know these are a lot of questions!

I'll try to answer a few but leave the rest for others
White gold(WG) vs platinum(Plat) - here goes
WG- shinier, will wear away over many many years, may need to be replated depending on what they mix the gold with to give it the white color, very affordable, lighter
Plat- will not wear away at all, may need to be professional polished every few years to buff out any scratch marks - scratches more easily, not as shiny but very durable, heavier, 3 to 4 times more expensive than gold
I prefer white gold but that is because I don't like the weight of platinum and that it isn't as shiny as WG but also because my mom has WG.
The choice is really up to you and your girl - it's just a matter of taste. But, if money is an issue - go with WG. You can always change the setting to Platinum in the future and get the same setting.
