Hi Everyone

I was looking over the list of vendors, but I didn't see any untreated emerald or jade "specialist" dealers (or cutters) listed, unlike for sapphire and ruby. I was wondering whether anyone knows of any who are reputable?

In emerald, I am looking for cert untreated (unoiled/unresined) if possible, $1-3k, good glowing color and clarity, and i'd rather spend on those than on carat.. on multicolour the emeralds in my price range are oiled and more carat than clarity/color. i would rather take .8-1ct for a better stone than 2-3ct with the budget that i have, but i dont see that available on multicolour.

Also I saw that Jeff White mentioned in part 2 of his outline of cutting that for darker stones, that you don't want too much sparkle (he is contrasting with lighter stones where you want flashy brilliant cuts):

In the bottom photo, an emerald (refractive index: 1.59 with low-med. dispersion) is cut in a "low-sparkle," classic emerald cut to emphasize the color that makes emeralds so highly-prized.

I suppose this is why emeralds seem to be almost always cut in .. emerald cuts? are precision emerald cuts more valuable or more attractive than native emerald cuts?

for jade, from what i've read, there seems to not be even labs that are widely accepted like agl.. how do you buy jade?

thanks for any info!

Jade is very popular in China. There are lots of jade dealers over there. I don't know how to find a trustworthy Chinese vendor, though.

For Jade, it's my understanding that Mason Kay is very reputable. They're strictly wholesale though so you'll have to search their website for a retailer.

For emeralds you might want to contact Josh at Serenity Diamonds.
