Emerald or Cushion Cut Diamond in Compass/NSEW settings?

Hi! I love the idea of a compass setting with the 4 prongs with one on the top, bottom and both sides. I’m not really a fan of the prongs at the corners because it makes the diamond cut look too square/rectangular.

Googling and going on Instagram for this setting doesn’t yield many results. Does anyone have a diamond in this setting and willing to show pictures? I would love to see how this setting looks on different diamond cuts!

The prongs on an EC are placed in the corners to secure the diamond and protect the corners.
If you’d like a setting that looks less square then what about a bezel where the corners of the bezel can be softened?

Are you interested in tab prongs or claw prongs, or dbl claw prongs...or something different?

Honestly I’m down to see them all! I’m really interested in the compass setting as the traditional setting makes diamonds look a little too square and cornered.

So I've looked at a LOT of this style of setting. On ECs it kind of ruins the facets for me -- it reflects the prong in the long steps. Just something to be aware of!

Yeah that would be a deal breaker for me. Also, it doesn't look any less square.
 
How about double prongs but farther apart?

I'm Insta stalking at the mo to find the right setting for my Asscher. I actually want to celebrate its shape so will go with more traditional prongs and I'm also keen to keep the corners safe.
If your ring isn't going to be worn every day, then a compass setting will look amazing.

To me, it’s not practical for every day wear, unless you have sturdy, secure tab prongs. Not to mention, the prongs will reflect throughout the stone, if it’s an EC.
You might as well bezel it to smoothe out the shape of the stone, but that will accentuate the shape of the stone, not mute the shape of the stone.
Cushions and Old Mine Cuts are more soft and rounded.
Perhaps that should be your focus, rather than EC’s?
I’m not certain what look you are trying to achieve with the compass setting in relationship to shape. EC’s and Asschers have cut corners, unlike radiant and princess cuts that have sharp corners.
Squatty, square cushions, and elongated cushions have soft corners; some even look round or oval from a distance.
Have you seen an example of the look you are attempting, here?
 
I don't find emerald cuts to be a great shape for studs. it would drive me crazy if they didn't both stay in the same orientation all the time. And I agree with others, I think ECs always look better with prongs on the 4 corners. It doesn't make them look any more rectangular than they already are, at least to me.

I think cushions and rounds do best with a compass style setting.

ECs can actually look great as studs if you don’t mind the orientation, I love how step cuts look in the ears with broad flashes of light return, and since I have big lobes I love rectangular EC studs and will someday buy a pair if I have the money after getting every other thing on my wishlist :D. Otherwise, piling on the agree train about how 4 corner prongs look best on an EC!
 
Hello! I can tell you from my personal ring design process with Rhino that we tried a compass prong setting for my emerald cut diamond (you can search August Vintage Emerald Cut and find the post with my renderings) and in the end after having the ring made by the bench, pulled away from the design and started over with a delicate double claw prong.

You could absolutely see the East & West prongs replicating themselves all the way across the emerald cut. I love the same rings as you have listed. If you love that style then go with the cushion cut and NOT the emerald.
