I would add Serenity Diamonds- ask for Josh.

Personally I would be more concern with treatment then inclusions. In emeralds you will be hard pressed to find a clean emerald. I'm guessing you have been looking at mall stores where they have the lab grown emeralds which have better clarity???

Mall sucks... the only decent ring we find in Neiman, ask for $26000, can't afford that, and look like treated.
What is the down side of treatment? hard to find a none treated emerald... not to mention come up the $$$ pay for it.

Welcome :wavey:

Treatment levels with Emeralds can differ greatly. For example, on Ebay you can probably find reconsistuted, dyed, fried and basically frazzled Emeralds (clearly not technical terms)! You want to stay away from those! So the list you've put together are a very good place to start. Personally I would start with Embassy Emeralds (who have been very accommodating recently to a poster - have a look because his search was very informative), and Serenity Diamonds.

Oiling of Emeralds is fine and you'll find most are oiled - this treatment goes back to Egyptian times so not something to worry about! Sometimes Emeralds need reoiling as the oil can dry out over time. It's good to know what type of oil has been used and the level of oiling as this helps with the care of your Emerald. I would stay away from anything that uses a dye - but again, that's a personal opinion.

You've said you're looking for "eye clean" but I need to caution you that this is not something that you associate with Emeralds. Emeralds have inclusions called "jardin" and this is normal. A very clean Emerald without jardin will either cost you more than one with jardin or may be synthetic! The key to a good Emerald is that the jardin shouldn't take over the stone OR make it look cloudy.

Just make sure you read up on how to care (and wear) your Emerald and you should be fine.

To add to the posts above, the only clean emeralds that are affordable will not have good colouration, meaning it will be both light in tone and light in saturation. What a person tries to balance when buying emeralds is to get as close to a medium dark green with a touch of blue, be transparent and with inclusions that are not too obvious or distracting. Treatment will also have a huge impact on pricing and it is good to know what type if treatment your emerald has in order to be able to care for it properly and have it last a long time.

Hi there, if you are looking for a 2 carat + green stone and you have a regular-person budget, have you considered tourmalines? It is less costly to get a large, beautiful, low-treatment tourmaline, and tourmalines are less fragile than emeralds.

My partner was extremely hung up on loving emeralds and nothing but until he and I visited a jeweler who had some tourmaline jewelry and loose tourmalines. Once he saw some quality tourmalines, he was impressed.

You guys 'rocks'!!! Thanks. :appl:
That's lots of great informaiton.

Birth stone is emerald, so we are fixed on this one. :Up_to_something:
