Emerald cut

The process of finding the perfect diamond for an engagement ring has been rather daunting, to say the least. While I wanted to select an emerald cut, the devil was most certainly in the details. So, I have located a 2.12ct, D color, no fluorescence, very good polish and symmetry, VS2 GIA-certified diamond. The table is 73%, with a depth of 62.4%, and is medium to slightly thick. It looks just like what I was looking for. I don't have a photo, but was wondering whether those who know much more than I do about this could provide comments and a reaction based on the specifications provided. I would like to know how these specifications rank among those that you'd especially look for in an emerald cut. The ratio is 1.3:1.

I also would like any input on whether it makes sense to increase or change any of the specifications provided. While first and foremost I want to purchase a gorgeous ring for my sweetheart that she'll love each day, it is also a significant investment and want to be sure that I make a wise decision. Large table and shallow depth. These tend to have flat crowns.

If you don't have a minimum of a photo at least, nobody can give you any constructive advice.

You really need some light performance images (Idealscope, etc) to help assess. Have you tried contacting a reputable vendor here for assistance? Someone like Good Old Gold for example can show you what the stones look like in pictures, idealscope images, and even on video. You simply can't buy a fancy shape by numbers alone.

I will post a picture tomorrow for more informed feedback. My impression however was that there are certain objective criteria that could be measured based on the specs. Someone mentioned that the large table and shallow depth gives rise to a flat crown, can someone please let me know what that means and if it is a good thing? Thanks for your kind insights.

You can see that the depth of your diamond is great but the table is very large in comparison. That article recommends a balanced and symmetrical stone with a table % that is smaller than the total depth %.

I attach a photo of the diamond resting in the desired setting. If a different photo is needed to evaluate this, please let me know. As for the table % being less than the depth %, what does this ratio add to the appearance of the diamond and does it impact its value?

I have an emerald cut GIA sI1 stone that is magnificent.....You have to see the shape and cut with your own eyes. You need to see how the stones sentilation and reflection . Each emerald cut has its own beauty. So even if the "ideal statistical criteria is perfect' or as said above Large table and shallow depth. These tend to have flat crowns. You have to see for yourself.

PS from the naked eye it looks gorgous but as everyone else stated you need ideal scope.....etc.

The cut, needs to be very good, excellent, or ideal.

Table and depth percentages:
The table ranges are 57-72, 60-75, 58-64
depth ranges are 58-69, 53-70, 58-64
