Emerald Cut Search

This statement says it all. You already feel a 3 carat is at the high end for her. Without her specifically telling you otherwise, I would really suggest you don't go beyond her desires and comfort. I'd recommend you get her a cheap CZ of the right size and have her test-drive it. She may find that smaller or larger is preferred. But, as stones get bigger, they also get taller off the finger. For me, anyway, I'm pretty height sensitive. Sometimes, bigger is better (and I'm usually in this camp). But, in your case, does your girl really want bigger? Will she feel comfortable wearing this in her daily life or will it sit in a pretty box unworn? She might jump at a 5 carat EC, but she might also feel uncomfortable. A dear friend of mine inherited a 5-carat cushion diamond. While it was a stunner in a custom platinum setting, she found she did not wear it as it was tall and attracted a lot of attention. My mom, on the other hand, rocks a 5+ diamond with no issue.

This is something I'm definitely taking into consideration. But given the value, I'm going to explore the option of a larger stone. I think she is most sensitive to the width component of finger coverage. She didn't like anything with side stones because the e/w finger coverage was uncomfortable to her. With a slightly more elongated emerald cut, I don't think this will be as much of an issue in larger sizes. The CZ trial is a good suggestion!

No picture/video/ASET so it would need to be requested, but there's this 5.04ct G VS2...

which is cheaper and bang-on the budget at B2C when paid by Wire transfer:

You're the expert deal finder! According to the dimensions, it appears that the 4.71 ct actually faces up larger than the 5ct and the length to width ratio on the 5 ct is under the target 1.35-1.4. With the lower color rating and the chunkier look, I think I will pass on this one. Thank you again for taking the time to help find the best value stones!

Just to throw some more options out there near to your specifications... :))

I don't know what's going on TBH - usually there's a dearth of nicely-cut ECs, but JA seems to have quite a few that are really nice at the moment, even if their just-a-smidge-over-a-carat-marker weights would seem to indicate they are being cut for weight and not beauty!

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions and recommendations. I was able to see the 4.71 ct in person and it was just as stunning as the video, so I scooped it up! I'm terrible at taking photos, but will share once the ring is complete. Now, I just need to decide how this thing should be set. Pretty much 100% of her jewelry is rose gold. I know she doesn't like thick rings, so it will be a ~2mm solitaire.

Any suggestions?

What kind of setting do you have in mind? Steven Kirsch does amazing work and I would recommend him in a heartbeat! His pave' work is outstanding and he does the nicest prongs for basket settings. He works in all metals and has an excellent eye for proportion and tasteful design. I don't think you can go wrong there. Check out his website. He's very easy to talk to and work with! Your ring is going to be amazing!!! :)

Agreed. There’s a setting for sale at GOG and on eBay that has good pics for you to look at.

Yes, if budget allows I highly recommend you check out Erika Winters' portfolio to see if her aesthetic works for your vision of the ring ... I think your rock in one of her settings (or a custom setting by her) would be insanely elegant and wearable. Just my two cents...

This stone with a simple setting is going to be stunning! I can't wait to see what you choose! She is a lucky girl.:rolleyes2:

Perhaps you will consider double prongs to provide more security? Here’s a tasteful image that shows this and also a pave diamond band with milgrain. I personally love this look and hope this is something you will too!

Or how about a split shank? https://www.google.com/search?q=eme...AUIEigC&biw=1024&bih=666#imgrc=Iua4K7egeVdVOM:
While I know you mention a 2 mm solitaire, a split shank may give your stone some stability. Be sure to consider that a thin band (even at 2 mm) may cause the emerald diamond to ‘spin’ so consider having sizing beads so her diamond will stay on top and not spin to the side.
