Long story short I have an itch for a RHR ever sense that spinel broke my heart. I found an emerald cut that had some slight potential and fit my teeny tiny budget so I got some pics. Your thoughts?

Re: Emerald cut people.

It has a nice table/ depth of 63/ 64... just wondering if that black is camera reflection or worse. Should I get it home to see?

Re: Emerald cut people.

I'm no expert, but I think it's very cute! If you can get it home that's the best way to evaluate it imo. :naughty:

Re: Emerald cut people.

Thanks! I found a cute marquise on eBay for a lot cheaper so I don't know......I'd love to hear some experts I'd they think this is a dud or just had poor reflection of the camera.

Re: Emerald cut people.

Hi,

I am not an expert but I like the chubby shape of it. You possibly need to see it in person to see if you can live with the dark bands you can see in the pics, sometimes they are not as bad in real life and are just contrasting zones the camera is picking up depending upon the lighting, they do seem quite pronounced in the pics, this means they probably will be there all the time in which case you will know when you see it if you can live with them and like them or if they will drive you batty. A marquise stone is going to be more similar in light reflection to a pear than an emerald will be if you can find one without a bow tie, depends on what "look" you are after.... the emerald will have a better resale value than a marquise.

Re: Emerald cut people.

I like it. I have no idea how well it would perform, can you buy it and then return it if you don't like it?

Re: Emerald cut people.

Have you seen Neatfreak's (former) ring? It's a .81 cushion but I think an EC would look incredible in a setting like this! I believe ERD made it for her.

at the point its between that stone and a ring I found on eBay. Its I but apparently its little, and I'd be OK with that. And its super well priced so I really don't know. Order them both? Seems like that might be the only option sense I'd probably have to see both in person.

Re: Emerald cut people.

I know nothing about the cut for emerald cut stones, however I do own a 3 stone emerald cut ring and the dark area of the stones drives me crazy, its like a dark stripe across all three stones, now it only happens in certain lighting, but I don't like it..now my stones are probably poorly cut as I did not do any research when I bought it, I bought it on a whim. I have thought about selling it, but just havent decided if I want to keep or not....

Re: Emerald cut people.

Yeah I don't want an obstruction streak right though it, but I've seen on James Allen where they look really ugly because of the camera in front of it, but the aset and the gemologist says its pretty. The person I am considering getting this though says its pretty, but I don't know how much a salesman they are sense I've never dealt with them before. I'm not sure I can get an aset either.

The shapes so damn cute and the price is right, and the numbers are good. Gah. I dunno.

Re: Emerald cut people.

Niel, both of those are classic engagement rings. Do you really want to wear an e-ring on your right hand? My advice is to save your money until you find something you really love.

Re: Emerald cut people.

Yeah I do... my e ring isn't a traditional one, so I'd like a traditional one too.

And I do love both of these that's the problem.

And I can save my money, but honestly regardless of what I save, I'm still not going to be comfortable paying a whole lot. I'm too frugal*

*cheap ;)

Re: Emerald cut people.

I think that EC would look great in a setting like the one with the marquise. If I were you, I'd wear THAT as an e-ring, and wear your current e-ring as a RHR.

Haha you caught me. I am certain if I got that emerald cut it would alternate ad my e ring sometimes. Depending on my mood sometimes I want a solitaire sometimes I want my 5 stone.

Yes its a tough call the Marquise pics look a lot more flattering than the Emerald ones, but I love the shape of the EC, and I have seen pics of emeralds that aren't flattering at all and the stones have been nice, so getting both if you can afford to do so provided they have a good return policy isn't a half bad idea. Then you can see which one you like versus which one you love and if you don't love either keep looking!!!

Re: Emerald cut people.

Is there any way you can view the EC in person? I don't like what I'm seeing but I don't know if it's just the picture either.

Re: Emerald cut people.

I personally love the EC!!!! And neatfreak settings is TDF. I would do that over the marquis.

Re: Emerald cut people.

Thanks for chiming in chrono. I feel similar to the way you do. The photos don't speak to me, but the shape, numbers, and price make me want to get it home just in case. But I'm worried I have more hope than I should have for that stone :((

Your right SB the shape is so adorable! I actually do like the marquise too though. They aren't for everyone but they make my tubby hands look so pretty. Plus the setting is beautiful and the price is like half of the ec. Let alone setting the ec.

I've sent a few emails to enquire a bit more. The marquise I can ship here and if I don't like it the seller will pay for shipping back. So I think that's a go.... still have some qs about the ec though.
