well, I''m a diamond addict and believe you are the ones to help and understand me :) in my country (Turkey) there usually are H-J stones, round in general. Although I love LOVE love emerald cuts, they are soooooo rare. I have a jeweller whom I trust and he''s got one; yet it is kinda yellow.I''m guessing k color. It was set in yellow gold but not sure how much this would change the color of a stone. The jeweller would give this 1.33 stone for 5000 dollars which is a bargain in Turkey. He can''t sell it cause everybody wants rounds. (a 1.25 I EC was 8000 dollars in another store.) Now, 1) should I take the deal and maybe set it in an antique wg or maybe pink gold 2) should ask him to find a smaller but whiter EC- to keep the budget 2) should I get a quality round which, may be easier?
I have size 4 fingers and 1.33 looks great on me but would people say ''she has a big but yellow rock'' ???
sorry it''s so long but I really need your advice. thanks

p.s. 1.33 is definitely eye-clean could be vs1 the table looked a bit large the ratio looked 1.40-1.50 but no definite numbers unless I get it appraised.

Chrip,
Are you saying the EC is uncertified?

Hi,

My engagement ring is an EC. 1.25ct, G color. When my fiance were looking, we were told by several people that with an EC, you should try to get the best color you can afford as ECs show color much more than a round or some of the other cuts. I told my fiance I''d rather have a higher quality diamond even if it was smaller because of this. I''ve also read that seeing the stone with an EC is so important because the cut, color, etc. all play a huge role in the way the diamond will appear. Hope this helps a little. Keep us posted!!

yes. it is unfortunately uncertified. I may get it certified though or ask the jeweller to bring new certified ones. he has egl certified rounds. certification is not common here

by the way, trying to upgrade my 0.51 J round vs1 egl from the same jeweller

If you want ECs, I''d go with something certified, even if it is EGL.

Since you love EC I would go with one of them but would get a smaller size stone to get a whiter diamond.

I''d also go for a higher color CERTIFIED EC. Is there any way you could work with a reputable vendor online? I''m not sure if this would be difficult to do from Turkey, but perhaps it would be worth a shot?

I love ECs, I can''t wait to see what you choose!

I also agree with the above.

I recently purchased a certified very good cut 1.02ct emerald cut stone. I had looked at maybe 15 stones ranging from E to I color, and I personally started to really see the color at about H. The diamond I ended up going with was a VS2 E, because it was a good price ($5500 tax in), and looked just so icy white and pleasing to me! But colour is very subjective as many have said. I would also suggest not going below VS2 clarity, though it seems you have already thought of that.

If I were you I would wait on it and personally not go for anything below G in color, which means you obviously have to drop a bit ion size to stay in the price range. Though H would probably work for you since youre setting it in yellow gold, unlike rounds colour is not hidden in emerald cuts, even if the cut is very good, because its just too glassy!

Just my 2cents... hope you can find what you are looking for!

Is there a reason why you cannot buy an EC form a pricescope vendor and have it shipped. You can get a much better selection and price over here and just ship it. Traci at whiteflash helped me find a great EC for $5030. It was D color, 1.15 with almost ideal proportions.

Good Luck!

thank you all for your help. I checked out the ring again: it is a greenish-yellow k and and very deep. it''s lovely in a way, cute if I may say so. But it''s not the ONE. I''ll take your advice and look for a G along with a certification. I personally don''t wanna buy an EC from the internet cause I need to see it and love it
wish you a happy new year
