Emerald Cut...Need your opinion

Hi All,

I've gone to a couple of brick and mortar jewelers and have set my sights on an Emerald Cut.

I've been communicating with Dan at Engagement Rings Direct, below are two stones he suggested.

"For a VS2 and up and an H and up this is the only one available with VG+ polish and symmetry;

Emerald 1.44 H VS1 VG VG 67.0% 61% 7.24x5.58x3.74 $6200

If you go with an SI then this one is also a good choice;

Emerald 1.40 G SI1 EX VG 66.5% 60% 7.45x5.41x3.60 $6200"

I've asked him to view GIA certs, where the inclusions are in the second stone.

What other questions should I be asking?

Any thoughts on these from people who are wiser and more experienced than I?

Hey VQ

Dan found me my EC and he was fabulous - you are in good hands!

I am not one of the experts on this forum but my suggestions would be:

1. Get photos.
2. Get more photos if you're not happy with the first photos.
3. If he can make you a video then get him to do that too
4. Get a Sarin
5. I understand that ERD now do ASET (they weren't when I bought my stone) - get that too.
6. Ask every question that comes into your head - I think I asked Dan about 1000000 questions and he answered all of them good-naturedly!

With the 2nd stone I would be concerned about eye-cleanliness - inclusions are so much easier to see in ECs than in brilliant cuts.

Finally, if you're not sure what to do - ERD do have a good return policy so you can always see the stone in person.

If you are buying a SI1 stone, you should check the stone to make sure the inclusions are eye clean. You can do this by simply looking at the stone with your eyes and see if there is anything there! Good luck!

Are you sure you want an SI1 emerald cut? I wouldn't.

Hi All,

I've attached the GIA, ASET image, and some regular photos of the 1.4 G S1. From what I can see in the pictures it doesn't look like it would be eye clean, but would appreciate if people could advise their opinions.

So here is the 1.44/VS1 stone specs

Emerald 1.44 H VS1 VG VG 67.0% 61% 7.24x5.58x3.74

The 1.44/VS1 stone is on the right, the 1.4/SI1 mentioned above on left. The ASET is of the 1.44/VS1 stone.

I'm really torn. I like the look of the 1.44/VS1, but I wish it was .10-.15 longer, do I wait for something better to come along? I don't want to pull the trigger if its not the right one.

I agree with the above comments that the 1.4/VS1 inclusion would bother me too much, its off the table, I just really loved its dims.
