Yes, I would expect that they would send you the original if you keep the stone past the return period; if you sent them an email on the topic I'm sure they will clarify their process.
I agree, shoot them a quick email, and I’m sure they will explain the process. Like I said, I would not be worried about the GIA cert with Whiteflash. How does the diamond look today and different lighting situations?
Hi! I think you found a beautiful EC! I love it next to your wedding band-it looks like a perfect match!
My guess is that your stone will be gorgeous outside in natural light and, as @Emeraldsaremyfavorite said, you might see the most warmth inside, in a beige room with incandescent lighting. You definitely should try to see it in every lighting situation that you possibly can before you make your decision whether or not to keep it to be sure that you love it!
Now that you have it a couple of days, how do you feel about it?
I have a d-color pear. It also will look different (more sparkly or less than other times), so I've become convinced that no matter what color the stone is, you will always see varying degrees of sparkle and intensity of shade based on lighting conditions. As crazy as it sounds, sometimes I put them both on one finger and compare them in the light and, I've got to tell you, the L really holds its own-you'd think the direct comparison would be a turn-off, but it's not! Quite the opposite!
The walls in my house are mostly beige and off-white, the kitchen in particular, and even in the house it looks great to me! I'll attach a photo in my kitchen, with caramel colored granite, taken at night so you can see what I mean!
Thank you for the ultimate complement: that you were inspired by my ECI took the chance, too, and when I gaze at those chunky, bright facets, I'm so glad I did!
Regarding the cost of a simple white gold setting, I wanted to do that, too, just so I could wear the stone and figure out what to do with it later on. Yekutiel from IDJ, who I bought the stone from, was nice enough to go into the market while I was there and find some stock settings to put the stone in, temporarily. I was hoping to spend no more than $400. He said because of the labor cost and the setting itself, the least expensive 14k setting would be $700 (same price as the one you're considering!). I didn't go ahead with it because I felt that $700 would significantly eat into my budget towards the platinum setting I wanted to do. In retrospect, it was a very nice, substantial setting that I could have kept the stone in for quite some time, but $700 seemed like a lot for a temporary solution at that time!
It was really frustrating to keep trying it on with that stone-holder-thingy they give you (I even had band-aids in the back of it to "size it") but I guess it forced me to get moving on the setting I have now.
About the Cert: it's not unusual to get a copy at the beginning because the original might still be with the cutter/owner of the stone, if Whiteflash sourced it for you. Or they might have it and will send it after your trial period is over. In any case, I'm sure they will tell you when you inquire about it.
Can't wait to see what you decide and read what you're thinking!![]()
I don't know if we are permitted to discuss prices here on PS, but in general, I think setting prices depend upon the type of metal you use, the size, cut, color and clarity of the side stones you choose, etc.. My setting is platinum and my side stones are .70 ct total weight. I got estimates from $3500-$6500. Prices also can vary by who is making the ring for you. I chose to have a local jeweler make this setting for me (although I didn't buy the stone from her, and she was fine with that). She was very moderately priced, in the mid-range. I was very happy with the work and how I was treated as a customer. Her store is called Sophie's Creations and she's located in Jamaica Estates, Queens, N.Y.. I don't know if that's a viable location for you to get to, but if it is, Sophie is excellent and I highly recommend her!Thank you for your note- I have the same thought about the setting. While it may be market, I feel that I is not a small amount for a temp setting. I too would be ok with 400 setting but 700 is giving me a bit of a pause. The ring holder is disaster and far too big for my finger. I am also based in New York, would you be able to share a range of cost for a settting like yours? I somehow feel it’s easier to get setting from the vendor you purchase it from but I wanted to just be open minded to this whole process.

I've also had a beautiful ring made for my pear, by Steven Kirsch, who does fantastic work and is the pave' king, in my opinion! He would do an outstanding job on any style of ring. His price would probably be higher, but he's in NYC and is a true artist-and also a joy to work with!
I'd be happy to help with anything else! I'm wondering how your day went and if you've made any decisions!![]()
I just love it!! Seems to me to be perfect in every way!!
Yay! I adore it!!I just told Whiteflash I am keeping it!. So they will send me the original GIA certificate. I am also setting with them to make the process a bit easier dealing with 1 vendor. I am excited and nervous at the same time!
Thank you for thoughtful response. I am always excited to hear back from you considering you just went through to purchase a beautiful L recently. I will send back the stone to Whiteflash tomorrow to get it set. I think most of their settings are branded so it’s not inexpensive, even the most simple setting so I am choosing a plain solitaire with double claw prongs. I am a bit nervous because I won’t be able to see the height and how things will be set until it’s dkne and they ship it to me. It’s a bit of a pain to ship things back and forth but I am excited for a new ring. I will be banned for 10 years - said my husband after this ring. Oy, I just love sparkling things too much. I am curious, you chose a platinum as metal for your ring, I know some people chose 14k or 18k, is there a reason you chose platinum? Thanks so much for sharing! It's such a beautiful stone! I'm glad you decided to keep it! I can't wait to see what direction you decide to take with it! You can't go wrong putting it in a simple solitaire setting for now and wearing it with your diamond band. That will give you plenty of "bling-factor" and you can take your time deciding what style you want to put it in later on! I think halo's are nice on EC's, if they are delicate, so as not to take away from the clarity of the step pattern.
You could also do a split shank or single band with melee in it and set the stone in prongs. When I was looking, I saw a stock setting that was reasonably priced, in white gold, with a widely-split shank in pave', (where the two shanks started under the end corners of the rectangle). It was a like a miniature of Beyoncé's emerald cut setting, lol! That would give you a subtle blingy-look, yet keep your center stone the star!
Whatever you choose will be lovely! I'm excited for you!![]()
Hi! Oh, that's so sweet of you to say! I'm so happy to be part of your journey! We emerald cut admirers have to stick together!!
I'm sure that Whiteflash will do a good job on your ring! They have a great reputation! Is there a way to specify that you'd like it to be set high, low or however you'd prefer it? I asked for mine to be set as low as possible, but because it's a larger stone there is a limit to how low it can go. I'm happy with how it turned out-it sits nicely on my finger and doesn't catch on clothing (but I still turn it inside when I put on a sweater or a jacket just to be safe).
The reason I prefer platinum to white gold is that the rhodium finish on white gold wears off over time, so to keep that bright appearance, you need to dip it every few years. Also, I like the patina that platinum develops, so you don't need to re-polish it (although you can have it re-polished and you don't lose metal, whereas I think if you polish white gold, you do lose a bit of metal).
I also have a thing for yellow gold, both 14 and 18k. I thought about setting my EC in yellow gold to do something different to match my yellow gold jewelry, but I wanted to be cautious and go with something ageless and timeless. I get bored easily (big admission, here, lol!!) so I felt I should do something that I'd be the least likely to get the urge to change! With a simple setting like this one, the price difference between white gold and platinum was not very great. I was also thinking ahead because someday this stone will go to my daughter, so I thought that platinum would hold up longer because I think it tends to be stronger, particularly for the prongs.
I hope this helps you! I'm here, if you have any other questions or if there's something else I can help you with!
Looking forward to seeing your beautiful new stone in it's setting!!!![]()
Hi, diamondlove! Oh!! Temporary settings! Ok, so I see your point! Well, is there a big price differential for a plain platinum solitaire versus a gold mounting from Whiteflash? If it's not much money, maybe you'd rest easier if you spend it on platinum in case you decide to leave it like that, longer-term.Thanks so much for sharing your rational re. The metal of your ring. I have only had platinum but I am trying to save as much as I can on the temp setting, but I am not sure... what if I like the setting and do not wish to change, then I will kick myself for not getting the platinum- oy, all kinds of dilemma. I just sent the stone back to Whiteflash for setting and yet i am still indecisive re. Metal of the ring. They said it will take 8 business days for the ring to set. I am so excited as this month is the month of our anniversary as well, it will be so fun to celebrate with a new ring.

Something to think about might be, what would you do with this setting when you go to reset your stone in the future? Do you plan to keep the mounting and make a colored-stone ring? Or would you trade it or sell it as scrap towards the purchase of your new ring? In the past, I've sold old gold towards making new pieces. Gold prices often go up, so you can recoup some value there. I'm not sure if platinum has as great a resale value as gold (maybe more??), and I'm sure it depends on the market, but I'm sure someone here on PS will know the answer to that!
I know this is a big decision (oy, I know!) and you want to see your stone on your hand for your anniversary, which is very exciting!!! Congratulations!!! I'm sure it's going to look awesome no matter what choice you make-you can't go wrong-and I can't wait to see it!![]()
