I''ve been searching for a decent emerald cut diamond for a while. I have an image, ASET and Sarin below for a stone I am interested in. The table is slightly larger than I would have liked and I was told the crown height was 15-20% but the Sarin has come back as 10.2%.

Shape: Emerald
Carat weight: 1.19
Cut: Ideal
Color: D
Clarity: VVS1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 63.6%
Table: 67.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle:
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.31*5.27*3.35
Ratio: 1.39
Price: $7400

Can anyone offer any informed comments/opinion? Is this a good deal?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gerrard

ASET looks fine, do you have the actual photo too please for reference? The crown height is ok, it would be higher preferably with the table size but it is reasonable.

Hi Lorelei - thanks for your response.

Hi Lorelei - thanks for your response.

Thanks Gerrard!

I would like Karl to look at this one if he is around to give his opinion if possible now looking at the photo, he should pop up presently! Have you discussed the diamond with the vendor? I am wondering whether the dark areas on the photo and ASET actually light up in reality. I think getting the advice from Karl and someone who can see the stone in person would be helpful.

Hi Lorelei,

I have spoken with the vendor a few times. I was told that the stone performs brilliantly, is an excellent example of an emerald cut and a gemologist mentioned they''d struggle to find something negative with it. However I was also told by the vendor the crown height was 15-20% before I requested the sarin report so Im alittle apprehensive on taking their word!

I am thinking of ordering the stone so I can have a look in person (that said I am no gemologist

I have posted all the information I have so was hoping the pricescope community of experts could give me a thumbs up or down. The stone is at the top end of my budget so I want to make sure the stone quality matches the cost.

Forgot to say I''d be very interested in Karl''s opinion if he is out there

67 table with 10% crown height is right on the border in my opinion.
Are you going to see it first before it is set or after?
JA does have a good return policy.

good idea, check it in all kinds of lighting and see how the fire is.
Brightness should be a-ok its bright for an EC

Karl,

Thanks for your input.

I will be getting the stone before it is set, hopefully next week.

The JA return policy is 30 days.

Given the stone spec is borderline in your opinion do you think the $7400 price tag is representative?

Many Thanks
Gerrard

Also what are your thoughts on the Pavillion depth given its highlighted on the Sarin report?

Thanks

Let us know what you think when you see it Gerrard!

I receieved the diamond last week and it looks fantastic (unfortunately I haven''t had opportunity to take photos to post but I will when I do get the chance). I got it independently appraised yesterday. The gemologist thought it was a fantastic diamond. The retail replacement cost she included in her appraisal was $17,800. I mentioned I''d paid $7440 and she didn''t believe me, she said I''d got an absolute steal.

Im alittle concerned in terms of things sounding too good to be true. Does this sound right? Should I trust this apprasial?

Is the appraiser independent?

Don''t put too much stock in the retail replacement value, it is always inflated even relative to actual retail values, it is just some crazy norm in the insurance inductry. But you will pay a high premium for an appraisal inflated hat much, more than double. I personally would be more interested in knowing the appraiser''s opinion of the cut quality. And I might ask for an appraisal that is less inflated OR I would insure it based on the actual cost (using the redceipt).

dreamer_dachsie thanks for your response.

The appraiser was independent (at a reputable local jeweller) and not associated to where I bought the diamond (online).

Aside from the D color and VVS1 clarity she thought the diamond had excellent proportions. She said they see good diamonds all the time but this was a great diamond and was showing the stone off to her colleagues. I was using the appraisal to confirm I had recieved what I thought I was buying so I am happy with that. I wont pay too much attention to the retail replacement value.

Thanks
