Hey guys,

Let me first start by saying how thankful I am to anyone willing to help me. I am looking to purchase an emerald cut diamond for an engagement ring. I have 2 options I''ve found at Blue Nile, but I want to get an idea if they''re priced right. Please let me know what you think. Also, I''m willing to look at any other options out there.

Thanks

I would check the inclusion(s) on the first one for eye-visibility. Emerald cuts do not break up the light return like rounds, radiants and PC diamonds. Inclusions are more readily visible. Are the numbers from a GIA Report?

Yes, the numbers are from a GIA report.

Hi! Welcome to PS. Unfortunatley Blue Nile doesn''t offer enough information on their stones to help you make an educated decsion. For example, pictures are really necessary to make an informed decision with Emerald Cuts.

James Allen and Engagement Rings Direct both have virtual inventories and will help you if you request additional pictures as well as an Aset. If you can get the crown height that would be helpful as well.

On a quick search I found these two that would be worth taking a second look at:

and

The second one may be a little above your budget however I believe that JA offers a wire transfer discount for PS memebers. That could have changed so don''t take my word for it but its worth checking in to.

You can run your own search and probably come up with more.

HTH!

I think the two James Allen option would be much better choices than the Blue Nile...

Thank you for sending those options! I''m looking to spend under $13,000, but i want a more elongated EC, 1.35 - 1.5 or so.

my EC is 1.5 and is considered the classic shape. I think below 1.35 can look very blocky.

1.86 G VS1 66.2% 59% GIA m-tk no vg vg 8.24-6.01x3.98 $6908 $12849* whiteflash

As well as the diamond you suggested, bgray, when I ask for more information, what photos or reports should I ask for? After doing a search on this website, I found another diamond. I''m finding it difficult to find a 1.5 dimension EC at a high quality. Any ideas?

Thanks

You need pictures. The more the better. If you can get an ASET and some pictures that would great, but even an idealscope and a bunch of pictures would be helpful. A sarin would be good as well, Crown height is missing on the diamonds. And Emerald cuts need to be seen to be evaliuated. You can''t go by the numbers.

Ditto.

Have you considered contacting WF or GOG and asking them to find you what you want? They can be your eyes and weed out the crummy ones for you.

per the others--WF and GOG are particularly adept at dealing with fancy cuts. WF can bring it in and look at for you. Thats where I got mine...

If you can''t look at them in person I would have someone like JA or WF look at them for you.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I will contact WF and GOG. Get some photos and their advice.
