Should I be concerned if the GIA report on a 2.56 emerald cut diamond is noted to be extremely thin? This is the only problem I notice with the report, but otherwise it is a great stone. I''ve been reading about girdle size and I''m worried this classification might be a problem. Should this deter from purchase?

I'd keep looking unless it is going into a full bezel or halo setting that would protect the girdle, but I'm the overly-cautious type.

If you buy it insure it.

The stone is great on all the other characteristics I''m looking for and was very well-priced, but the extremely thin got me worried. It is already set in the ring - platinum setting with .1 ct tapered baguettes on each side from a high-end jewelry store. If it has already been set - does this mean the diamond report might not capture damage that has been done to the stone already or potential chipping?

See if you can negotiate a return policy and get it in writing so you can get an independant appraiser to evaluate the girdle for you. Unfortunately there is no way for us to tell if it is an issue or not, it is possible that the ex thin part measures only in the microns and is placed in a non vulnerable area, or it could encompass a large portion of the girdle, check with an expert is my advice.
