Emerald and OMC bypass

Found this fun sparkle bomb in of my favorite pawn shop, vintage resellers In Kentucky. It’s a small bypass, in 14 karat YG. The OMC is less than a quarter carat but I just loved thr bypass design and the emerald is so green. Price was right

I did. The shop has a few locations in the bigger cities KY and a pretty good website. There is a lot of pawn shop garbage stuff for sale on the sight, but I know the founder and he’s a legit lover of old stuff.

Kentucky is a rural state, and for a lot of people there are no local estate jewelers in small towns. So when a family member leaves stuff, they get divorced, etc. they drives to one of The Castles locations to sell jewelry. I got my Sapphire OMC rose gold Victorian snake ring at the same place, pic below.

I was born in Louisville and grew up about 30 miles north of there across the river in Scottsburg. Small world!

The ring arrived today and it’s better than I expected and it has a French dog head assay mark to boot!

The listing noted that the emerald was a cab cut but under a loupe it’s clear it was an OMC cushion cut that’s had its facets worn down over years of loving wear.
