Long time lurker here, finally finding a moment to share a recent project.
A couple of years ago I came upon this loose sapphire cut by Peter Torraca, and couldn't get it out of my head. The stone is a pinkish, purple sapphire called Eleanor II. I tend to shy away from stones swaying towards pink so went back and forth about the stone until Peter mentioned the fact I had already named a stone I didn't own or hold! Sooo, I brought Eleanor II home, and tucked her away for a rainy day.
The back story is the original Eleanor - my grandmother's ruby ring which I inherited about eight years ago. The ruby ring was a 50th anniversary gift from my grandfather and I remember always fawning over it as a child, begging my grandmother to let me try it on just once. It was sort of a big deal in the family, as my grandfather gave it to my grandmother a number of years prior to their actual 50th anniversary for fear he would die before they reached the milestone (he was 12 years her senior). In the end, my grandfather lived to see 52 anniversaries, and my grandma never took the ring off until she passed it on to me (she is still living).
Being that purple is my grandmother's favorite color, I sometimes wonder if my grandfather had known ruby and sapphire are both corundum, would he have given her a purple sapphire instead of the traditional ruby? I acquired the stone with my grandparents in mind and heart, and Eleanor II's rainy day came when Jewels by Grace introduced the Erika Winter's collection. Caroline was the setting Eleanor II was waiting for all of her life! Eventually, the ring will go to my daughter. Her birthstone is sapphire, and her favorite color also happens to be purple.
Both Grace and Peter are always a delight to work with!
Stone Specs:
7.8 x 6.6 x 4.8
2.02 ct
Modified Cushion
AGL certified "Heat Only"
Ring is platinum, size 7.5
