I recently saw an EGL Certificate that states the diamond''s exquisite proportions display the appearence of 8 hearts and 8 arrows in the comments section. Has anyone else seen these? Is it a true H&A diamond? The proportions listed on the certificate are:

60.8% depth
56.0% table
15.0% crown
43.0% pavilion
Excellent polish
Excellent symmetry
No Culet

Any opinions on this?

well of course it''s possible, but i wouldn''t rely on an egl cert. to determine true h&a. did you see glossary about h&a that you may want to read.

Thank you for the response, belle. Interesting threads. Has anyone else seen this or have an opinion on it?

if a cutter had taken the time to actually cut for true hearts and arrows, the stone would not be sent to egl for grading. i''m sure there is some form of ''hearts'' and ''arrows'' distiguishable, but they would not be the presicion cut of a true h&a.

Thanks belle. That''s pretty much what I figured and I''m always wary of an EGL cert. I just found it strange to state that on the certificate. The stone is listed as an H color VS1 clarity. I have spoken to the vendor, who has the actual stone in hand. He said that it is a true H&A and a true VS1. He did say that it is a weak H/strong I.

EGL Israel reports have that kind of comments. It''s a bit like ''''excellent ideal cut'''' or ''''tolkowsky ideal cut''''. I honestly have no clue about their standards when it comes to judging H&A patterns, but they sure do not have a good reputation over here about their grading strictness.
