Egg Watch...how long before my chickens lay?

No eggs today. DH found something strange in the coop but said the girls ate it before I could see it. He said it was like the inside of an egg with a bit of mushy shell. Yet again Lorelei - you are spot on with your predictions for my girls. Like my own personal Mystic Meg - or as I coined her; septic peg.

When our cats sit and look out the windows I call it their 'cats t.v.' so the chickens being 'cats dvd' makes absolute sense to me. Aren't cat owners mad?

Yep that sounds like a membranous egg which they can produce now and then, they normally get devoured/ recycled by the chicks themselves.

And I quite agree cat owners can be pretty bonkers.

I have eggsellent news: Two

(2) fresh little eggies arrived just after lunch today.

Soooooooo does tham mean both my girls are laying?. There are each a different shade; one slightly more pink the other more brown. Such good hens! Whoooooo for eggies. DH is having eggs & soldiers for his tea tonight.

Yeah for eggs!!! I haven't had a chance to say "hello" until now, but I've been reading off and on. I'm so glad that the girls have finally gotten with the program! Hubbs and I have decided that we will make a little coop, but not yet. And so glad that your kitty hangs out watching the girls, it won't scare them off laying will it?

My kitty likes to lay in front of Chester the squirrel's cage during the day.

Chet gets a little nervous with him there.

I love your marmalade kitty. My very first kitten, which I got when I turned 3, was a marmalade kitty. I''ve had a soft spot for them ever since. I''m glad to hear yours Lissey is doing better these days.

I have been crazy busy for a while and have not had time to post. Almost every day our girls have given us another 2 eggs. We are constructing an extented pen at the moment because they turned up the grass already in their little pen. The new one will be re-positionable adjacent to the old one with a hatch so they can scoot back to the coop to lay us a delicious eggie weggie (or two

).

DH said yesterday he wanted to get another hen and there was nothing to discuss. Off we went and by the afternoon Hettie was in her forever home. It is funny to compare her to our old girls. Hettie''s rubber glove is very small and almost white, as are her giblet-ie bits under her chin. Her nails are much longer too.
