A PSer suggested that I try ebay to get the most bang for my very limited bucks in my last post. I've found 2 possibilities and just wanted your opinions on these stones, Max bid, and perhaps some advice on questions to ask the sellers. I'm very leery of Ebay but I've seen a lot of prices that are right where I need them to be for some great stones (if the specs are correct). As always,I am open to any and all suggestions; you've all been very helpful throughout my entire search. I am so lucky to have come across this site :appl:
Please bear with me, it's tough waiting 9 years for a ring ;)

Hi Ms_Lovely,

I think I like your second pick better than the first one, but neither have the greatest light performance.

Are you looking for an old stone specifically?

I would stay away from either of these diamonds. Both diamonds are missing certifications (or you didn't provide that info) so you don't know if it's really the color that they state. I'm very leery of diamonds that give their colors in a range (G-H-I). There are no crown angles, pavilion angles, tables, or depths percentages so we don't have enough info to calculate an HCA score. At the very minimum, you need enough info to calculate an HCA score on a round brilliant. On that note, I don't even know if the second stone is a round brilliant as it looks like a transitional or something to me (I'm not an expert, I have no idea but it doesn't look like an RB).

If it were me, at the very very minimum, I want a GIA/AGS certified stone that is eye-clean and has an HCA score under 2.0. The HCA score can be ignored if the stone is an AGS 000.

:errrr: I sent messages to the sellers asking about certification and am awaiting replies.

What's your budget for just the stone again? I read your other thread, but I can't figure out if you decided to spend all $2000 on a stone or if you're still spending $1100 on the setting.

Not an old stone but a stone I can live with for a while without blowing my entire (whopping  ) $2000-$2500 budget.

How much are you spending on just the stone? The whole $2000?

Still haven't decided. I wanted to check out ebay and pawn shops to see if I could get lucky. I'll give it a few weeks. If I don't find anything that's worth the money then I'll look for the biggest, most sparkly rock I can find and be happy knowing I did everything I could :praise:

What about this stone? http://diamondbistro.com/category/197/Necklaces-and-Pendants/listings/33657/077ct-FG-I1-Round-Brilliant-diamond-pendant-14k.html

You could ask her opinions about unsetting it and putting it in a ring (ribbon style or otherwise).

ForteKitty is a well-respected member of PS and all her stuff is lovely.

I'm getting really excited! This looks like it could be the one! I'm sending her a message about removing the diamond!!

I am waiting for my confirmation email. I had to setup a DB account

Please post back and update with what she says!

Her Preloved thread is here, maybe you can comment there too (if you want): https://www.pricescope.com/forum/preloved-ps-jewels/more-stuff-listed-t186607.html

I sent her messages on PS and DB! I can't wait to get her reply! I can't stop looking at it; I really think this is the one for me :appl: (eeeekk) it's so much prettier than all of the other stones I've seen in my price range

put it in a gorgeous setting!!!

Great Choice! Can't wait to see the re-set!

if I had a small budget I'd rather call James Allen or GOG or BG tell them my situation and let them pick the best bang for your buck or I'd go to PS preloved section and find a stone that a PS is selling so they can upgrade. Ebay....no way you have no idea what your actually getting

I think it'll be a good choice for you also! Fortekitty has an excellent eye for stones. You are going with the Stuller Ribbon right? I was looking at some Stuller stuff the other day and saw their ribbon ring and remembered your original thread.

I would feel totally safe buying from fortekitty. She has a large collection and may even have something else she might be willing to sell. She is also whom I call my eBay queen if you need help. Buying from eBay is different than from the stores. I personally don't care for a piece of paper as long as I get enough pics or return policy. Paper work ... I can easily get myself. With that said, eBay is only good if you know what you are doing or have someone helping you.

Ms_Lovely, I noticed ForteKitty's pendant sold. Did you buy it? :)

Yes! We're buying it!!!!!!! :D I'm not supposed to know any of the details so I'm not sure when it's coming but I know for sure this will be my center stone  I know it's not a stone that most PSers would have chosen because it's not eyeclean or ideal but I just had a good feeling as soon as I saw it! My SO didn't want to buy it. He thinks the I1 clarity will really bug me over time and he's worried that it won't sparkle in-person. I admit that I'm a little worried about that, too :? but I'm going to trust the description and my gut with this one. It's exactly the right price...I have really high hopes! Thank you so much for sending me the link Sortmon :appl:

I wouldn't worry at all. Fortekitty is an amazing seller with great pieces. She has eagle eyes and if she says she can barely see it ... I am pretty sure a normal person won't be able to see it.

If FK says it's sparkly, then it will be. A lot of people tend to think (because this is what jewelry stores tell them) that unless a stone is VVS or something it won't sparkle. While clarity in SI and below can affect sparkle with some kinds of inclusions, generally sparkle is a result of a stone that has nice cut proportions and again, FK has got an amazing eye, so you won't have to worry there. I think it's going to be just what you need for your budget!

Come back with pictures!

Yay! This is a lovely stone.....within your budget I think you got a wonderful deal!

Yay! Please create a SMTB thread to post pictures of the completed ring! I can't wait to see how it looks! Congratulations!

Very exciting! PS rules all! :appl:

ms_lovely, rest assured with FK's perception of it being eye clean. Have you seen my "Freckles" pendant I bought off of her? Mine had black inclusions, FK said it was generally eye clean from a normal distance, and guess what? My 15/20 post-Lasik eagle eyes agrees with her :sun:

Most inclusions won't prevent your diamond from "sparkling"--- it's cut that generally determines that. But for your budget, and your size wants, I think you've done wonderfully and have gotten a great deal :appl:

yayyy Ms_Lovely I am so excited for you!!! FK is so, so sweet and has one of the best collections. I'm sure it'll be a beauty!!!
