E VS2 looks hazy and milky? Why?

This is a question from my friend.

My friend's fiancé bought her an 2.3ct E VS2 E-ring, it looks big in person but we do see some cloudness viewing from top...why is it? From my understanding the cloud inclusion in VS2 clarity should not cause any problem and should be completely eye-clean.

I have attached GIA cert and photo of the haziness. Any comment? Thanks.

Edit: We cleaned it but no improvement =[

Are you sure it is clean?

It has additional clouds and pinpoints. We have seen this once before when someone had to send
back a VS stone because it was cloudy/hazy due to additional clouds. Before that we have always
said that a VS stone will not have any issues due to the "Additional" comments but I dont say that
anymore.

Yes, it is a bit unusual. The clouds are not the grade setting feature in this stone (listed third under keys). The clouds plotted are pretty confined to small areas. The clouds mentioned under comments are most likely contributing to some cloudiness. Often they are more diffuse but involve a larger area. Therefore the plotting of them tends to give a shopper an outsized impression of their impact.
I suspect this one may be a borderline Si1 and clouds maybe affecting transparency.

Since grading is subjective, it's very possible that this stone was on the border of VS2 / SI1 and the grader went for the VS2. A different grader or 'harsher' grader may have opted for the SI1. If you're sure the diamond is clean (soak it in warm water with soap before giving it a good scrub or go to a jewelry store and steam clean it) then the additional clouds and pinpoints could be effecting transparency.

A way to be totally sure would be to have the diamond appraised by a reputable appraiser who would evaluate the stone and address your concerns.

the cut is less than stellar based on the messed up gia numbers it could be anywhere from a AGS3 to AGS5 and the hca score is around 3.9. That could very well be what your seeing.

In other words, it wasn't a good choice for a diamond. Where did he purchase it and is it within a return period? She can find a better stone. If it bothers her now, its's only going to get worse for her...

I agree with Karl.

Also, this might be a silly question but... do you keep it clean? If you don't keep your diamond clean regularly the build up of oils and dirt will eventually make any diamond look dull. A 2.3 carat stone has a lot of surface area and will get dirty super fast.

I recommend soaking in hot water with dawn and a little windex and then a good brush with a soft tooth brush. And, then you dry it with a lint free cloth. I purchased some nice lint free cloths used for cleaning eyeglasses and they are fabulous (Amazon) for keeping your stone clean.

If after cleaning it is still showing signs of cloudiness, might be the additional clouds referenced in the other comments part of the GIA report making their presence known.

Not a big fan of the 41 pav angle matched up with the 35.5 crown angle. It's not bad, but if they paid top dollar for this GIA Triple Ex, this is sadly a lesson in the breadth of what GIA considers to be an excellent cut vs. what us anally retentive folks on PS would recommend.

Can they take the stone back within the return period (if it hasn't already passed) to exchange it for a different one that doesn't exhibit the cloudiness?

My friend has returned the diamond and she found one that fits her requirement but under the comments section it says "clouds are not shown" where normally we see "additional clouds not shown."

The online jewelry store inspected and confirmed that the clouds are not an issue for this diamond. She compared in regular office lighting, bright daylight and spot lighting, and they couldn't see any effect that the clouds have on performance, even when side by side next to the other stone.

Due to bad experience last time she would like to get some opinion from PS before placing an order. Is it something that she should avoid from? This is also an VS2 stone but graded by AGS.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If there is no haziness when seeing the diamond with your eyes in different lighting conditions, there is NO problem with the cloud inclusion! Not always the clouds cause a haziness in the stone.

Are there any clouds listed in the key under the stone? I am assuming not since it doesn't say 'additional clouds' but am just wondering. What does the vendor say regarding comparison between the first stone and this one in terms of cloudiness?
