Hi folks! Hope you all are staying safe and healthy!

A few weeks ago, I suspected I had a loose prong on my e-ring, but dragged my feet in calling my usual repair place. A few days after I noticed it, all non-essential businesses in DC were closed down. I was still been wearing it sparingly (hard to lose a stone when you're on the couch all day), but what started as a funny noise when I tapped it has turned into a distinct wiggle and the prongs are catching on everything I wear and touch.

Does anyone know of reputable jewelers with benches that are still functioning? Is it crazy to FedEx it to someone in order to have them tighten the prongs? DC just extended their closures for another month and it's bumming me out not being able to wear it. Our wedding was originally 5/30 (postponed now) and I'd like to have it fixed by then but I guess it isn't really necessary!

Any advice?

If you can take some really zoomed in photos in really good flood lighting our cloudy outdoors - I might be able to assess the chance of it being a problem.
but probably calling around will be best

Sorry to hear your stone is loose. I think David Klass in LA might still be operating somewhat. Perhaps email him to ask. I would completely trust him to fix it. Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear that it is loose and under such bad timing. I do know that a lot of jewelers are still able to get limited bench work done. Where did you get the ring?... let's start there.

We have some small local benches doing work for one customer at a time. I met with one yesterday...the social distancing and masks were a little weird but it went well. If you can find someone open you may be able to just wait there while they adjust the prong.

To add....we have very few cases here but if your area is harder hit by Covid I can understand why you many not want to to into even a small local shop.

I asked who the original vendor was because they may be the one to go to for this given this was their customer and also, depending on how long it has been and, in the spirit of goodwill (and good business!), they may do it for no fee or nominal, as well as quick turn-around.

Hunt Valley Jewelers in Timonium, Maryland is open and has a bench. They've done work for me in the past and they're reputable. Not sure how they are claiming essential, but it's somewhat closer to you. You can give them a call.

id tuck it safely away in a very safe place and get it fixed after all this covid thing is under control

although a jewler somewhere could no doubt really do with the bussiness

good luck and stay safe

Take some photos for @Garry H (Cut Nut) and see what he says. That’s a lovely generous offer from him.

If he says it’s loose, unless you have a local jeweler you trust who will discreetly check your ring out for you without having to publicly open their bench, I agree with @Daisys and Diamonds - tuck it away in safe place.
