Hihi experts,

I'm having this thought rolling in me for quite a while...just can't make up my mind, please help :)

I have a .61ct E color diamond ring, and I want to reset it into a 3 stone ring. I think i will go with .30ct-ish side stones and for expense consideration, i would like to get 2 Hs, or even Is. But will the color difference be noticable? Does anyone have stones far apart on color scheme set together? Does it bother you?

If H isn't going to work, what's the lowest color I can get away with?

Thank you very much!!

You need to see them in person and see if it matters to your eyes. For me it would matter and I would not go lower than F, but I am color sensitive.

Yeah. I'd stick really close too. I'd be okay with G probably. But not lower than that. And F is the sides are fancies and not rounds.

I agree with the others, I think that I could maybe go to a G. I'm not as color sensitive as some. I think that if you really want to go with an H that you need to see it in person in a variety of lighting situations. I really don't think you can go as low as an I though. Did the same lab grade all three stones?

I have a necklace with an .80 point E color center stone and two G/H .35-.40 side stones. The center stone is GIA certified but the side stones are not and therefore the color is an estimate. Perhaps my eyes are not all that sensitive but I can't tell the difference (color wise) between the E stone and the two G/H stones. I purchased the center stone from IDJ and they were mounting the stone in a setting I had chosen so I trusted them to chose side stones that would match the center stone not only color wise but to also have the same amount of fire, etc. So, if the stones are carefully chosen either by you or by a jeweler you trust, you can definitely go with G color and maybe H.

Ditto- you really need it see it in person.

That's what my ring is- E center with H sides. If you stared long enough, you could see a color difference, but not if you just look at it casually.

I think it depends on how color sensitive you are and the lighting conditions (i.e. it will be more noticable in some lighting and less in others)....

I just had a ring made by Leon Mege and he said he often does sides that are "one step" lower in color than the center. He said this sets off the center (at least this is what I remember). So my E center has F/G color french cut sides, and I can't perceive a difference in color. I don't think I'd go lower than G however.

I think G or H could work, but like others said, see them first. You might not mind and be able to go even lower in color.

Ditto to going no more than one color grade lower, two max. You could make a pretty 5 stone ring with that size center, too.

Yes, this is my point: It does not matter what we would be comfortable with, you have to see it in person and decide what you are comfortable with in this case.

hahaha, very PS indeed!! Seriously, how do you know I also want a five-stone ring? :)
I think I probably will halo the .61 E as getting 2 F/G seems to be a little costly, and save up for a H/I five-stone ring
Thank you DS and everyone!!

Yeah, two rings instead of one...sounds like a great plan to me! :appl:
