E; bluenile signature ideal, IF; 0.75 - worth buying?

hi, i was wondering what your thoughts are on this diamond:

is it worth paying more for the bluenile signature ideal cut and the IF clarity OR can i spend my money better by upgrading the carat and downgrading to a VS1-VVS1?

i''m torn between getting a diamond with awesome specs OR a bigger diamond with just "good" specs.

Honestly, forget the IF. Go down to VS2 or SI1 and get an even bigger rock!

And you can still go bigger if you choose an F. It''s still in the colorless range, if that is what you are looking for.

F-G/VS2... anything else is TOTALLY overkill.

You should be able to get a ~1ct stone for the same price.

I have an F- VS2 and feel like it''s a great balance!

My brother bought his wife a Blue Nile Signature round and it''s stunning! Her''s is an H, VS2 and there is minimal difference between her H and my F (also from Blue Nile but not a signature cut).

we're looking to spend $8000 on the ring.

tried on the bostonian three-stone setting this weekend at barmakian. it looks something like this: http://www.wheatjewelers.com/3d/3ddetail.php?ID=54 but in platinum. the cost of the setting is $1525. sidestones were each 0.25 carats.

i think my priority is quality over quantity...but size does matter to a certain extent too.

I have heard that F, VS2 is a very attractive matrix for holding value long run.

I would not go w/ IF, cause in reality, you will never see even a VS2 level inclusion and at that carat weight SI1 will also be very difficult to see. However I understand your desire for quality and it is a very good idea.

I would go with the Union Diamond stone (or another similar one), where you trade a very little bit of quality for a one carat size stone. I think if you can get it one carat or larger, F, VS2 that you will have a fabulous quality gem.

I don''t consider VS or even SI, to be low quality. I guess some may. Really, cut is the most important thing of all. An excellent cut will make any diamond look whiter and more eye clean because all you will see is sparkle.

Don't assume by a vendor label stating Ideal Cut that the diamond in question is well cut. These descriptions don't always mean very much, each diamond has to be taken on a case by case basis. As Jazmine says, cut is key for a diamond's beauty. Read the advanced tutorial at the top of the page to learn the basics about cut, then start to search. Vendors such as Good old Gold, Wink Jones, James Allen and Whiteflash have all the info you need to help you choose a superbly cut diamond. They usually have the diamonds in house too so they can talk you through each one. The others have offered good advice about dropping the clarity, this along with a great cut will get you a diamond to be proud of for a good price. Better to have an eyeclean lower clarity ( although VS and SI1 are not to be sneezed at) with awesome cut specs, than higher clarity with ho hum cut proportions.
