My 13 yo cat, Abby Lee, is very ill. She has kidney disease, which has flared into an infection. She has been at the vet since last Thursday and is not responding to treatment. She will not eat, they have to hydrate her, and she is on several antibiotics. She is extremely lethargic. She has had two overnight home visits to see if being with us might help. It hasn't. Many tests have been run and we are awaiting the results from a few others. She may also have pancreatitis, however, the treatment would be the same. If she doesn't start responding to tx within a few days, Jim and I will have to make a decision, what we do not want to make. Our little girl is suffering and we can't allow this to continue. We are devastated. Our older cat, Woody, died just before Thanksgiving. We cannot believe we are going through this again. Please send us dust and the courage to do what is right for Abby.

I''m so sorry

Dust! Courage! Love! Luck! (I can''t write much more or I''ll start to cry.)

Dust outgoing for you, risingsun...
As a fellow pet owner and animal lover, I am sorry to hear this news, and my heart goes out to you and your husband.

What helped my husband and me when we were in your situation was to remember that our cat knew that we loved him and he depended on us to make the decision that put his best interests first, even if it meant letting him go. It was so hard.

Oh Marian, so very sorry to hear this, sending positive thoughts and lots of dust, hugs to you.

Sending much love and prayers and courage Marian!

having had two cat deaths from cancers within 2 months, i know your agony. please spend as much time with her now as you can. many vets allow visits in their offices. please do this for her sake and your sake.

Oh no

I''m so, so sorry.

I hope she responds well to the treatment. As a fellow cat owner and lover I know how heartbreaking it is when you just don''t know what will happen, if the treatments will work.. I''m praying for you, Jim, and especially Abby.

I''m so sorry. Get well, Abby.

Sending dust your way.

Thank you all for your support. I am praying that she starts responding to treatment. When we brought her home those two evenings, Charlie, our dog, was so excited to see her. He sniffed her and then licked her. They play together all the time, but Abby quickly tired of his affections. I think she was just too fatigued to deal with a bouncy cavalier. Abby and I took a long nap together, but by evening she was hiding under the bed again. All we can do is wait, at this point

Lots of dust for Abby and hugs for you and your family.

Waiting is the worst part. We lost our 19 year old to what turned out to be cancer in November last year. Waiting and hoping that antibiotics (there was a slim chance it was just an infection) would help was just so hard.

Spend as much time with her as you can -- maybe even bring her home if the vet thinks it is a good idea. Our cat took great comfort in being able to curl up next to us. (she purred all night and then just went to sleep curled up in my arm)

Okay, I''m crying at my desk now.

I hope Abby feels better and you have more happy years together.

**DUST** and hugs to you and to Abby Lee. I hope she gets better very soon. She is lucky to have you.

Dust for your kitty! I hope she recovers. I''ll be thinking of you and your precious cat.

We received a call from the vet. Abby has eaten some of her food. Her temp dropped from 104.9 to 102.8. It''s been erratic all week. They have changed her antibiotics. She will spend the night with us and return to the vet in the morning, again. We are going to take this a day at a time and hope that things improve. Thanks again for being here for Abby and me.

Oh, eating is a good sign! And her temperature dropped -- also good news. I''m keeping my fingers crossed that she improves.

Enjoy your night together and keep us updated. I hope she keeps eating and getting better.

***Much Dust, Courage and healing vibes coming your way***** Please keep us posted, please.

Abby and I took a nap together. She is still not eating any food for us and wants to stay in or under the bed. We will bring her upstairs to be with us this evening. She is so thin. We will bring her back to the vet in the morning and take it from there. It''s good to have her home, even for short visits. They give her meds, hydrate her and it''s safe for her to leave the clinic overnight. I''ll have more news tomorrow.

have you tried buying the cheapest, nasties smelling cat food you can find? canned?

i''m glad you got to nap with her.

We have tried everything. The problem is that she needs to have the special kidney diet food in order to help with her recovery. The only thing she has eaten--but not tonight--is a few cat treats. We have a buffet table of food for her and she seems to be having trouble swallowing, if she even tries the food

You must be heartbroken. Take care of yourself and each other.

we''ve been through this: its heart breaking.....opening can after can praying that it will be "the" can....

ps i''m willing to break dietary restrictions to get kitty to eat....the idea being that if we can get kitty eat, we can then get back on the diet regime recommended food. however, having "lost" our tommy cat july 2005 to kidney disease, i know full well that there comes a point of no return. have you tried subq fluids to help keep her hydrated and the kidneys flushed? just thoughs i''ve got rambling around in my head from our trials tribulations of having "lost" 4 cats in less than two years to various diseases..........

^^^She has been getting sub-q liquids daily. We have tried all kinds of food, just to get her to eat. We are concerned that this may have triggered this latest infection. We are trying not to second guess ourselves. Abby has always been a very picky eater and we do the best we can. I really appreciate your good advice. This has been terribly frustrating. Without the RX food, she gets sick, with the RX food she doesn't eat. We feel so stuck. Right now, we would be grateful if she would just eat anything. The vet sent her home with AD, which is the recovery food. She ate a little bit of it a short while ago. She sat in my lap all evening and now she is off to bed.

How is Abby today? Has she eaten more of the AD?

Lori

Abby...please eat (begging)! Lots of healthy kitty dust. I hope she stats to recover soon. I know you are not in a good place so I will
be thinking of you and Abby (positive thoughts).

my cats hated AD.....sigh. so glad she ate a bit before being off to bed. hope it goes well today. in my thoughts, obviously.

Sending lots of dust to Abby and strength and love to you and your family. As a fellow cat owner of a 14 year old sick baby (Irritiable Bowel Disease, on Prednisolone and Chlorambucil) I feel your pain and frustration. I hope that she eats more of the AD and continues to recover. Hugs! Please keep us updated.

Abby did not eat the AD or anything else during her overnight with us. She is back at the vet. My regular vet will be back this afternoon and I should have an update from her. I read the vet notes that came home with Abby. Her temps have spiked to almost 106. I will be anxious to see if she is maintaining the temp drop that she achieved yesterday. I will be back with an update later. All I am doing is trying to distract myself. It's not working very well.
