4-5 sizes is alot for any ring.Post pic of ring...many factors to consider...metal,amount and type of stones, position of stones, style of ring and quality of manufacture.I myself would never size a ring this many sizes.
I needed my micropave band sized---but I don''t think it can go up higher than 1/2 a size without getting a new shank (any one else have this problem?)---
As for your question, I think you may need a new ring (setting to be made, rather). That seems like too much needs to be done to save it. Assuming it is a plain mounting.
I took a ring up 4 sizes, but had it re-shanked to do so. For 18K yellow gold I paid about $250 for the new shank. This was 3 months, I don''t know what gold prices have done since that time.
