Ducks in my pool

I am a big fan of a twelve gauge, but your neighbors would probably protest. Besides, legally, they ARE out of season... (kidding)

My labs have both been trained to ignore urban ducks completely as I do not want them chasing or otherwise harassing ducks when we are not hunting. It is amazing to me how quickly they caught on and ignore the ducks on the ditch bank we walk every day. This is the start of the mating season here too and we will see several "families" of ducks swimming around for the next few months.

It is sad how few of them are able to grow enough to fly away when the time comes. There are foxes, raccoons and dogs, as well as small hawks that predate the young.

Good luck getting them out of your pool!

There was a Sopranos episode on this...

I have a motion activated sprinkler head that I use to keep large birds off my deck.

I'm sorry Nala, but this is just adorable! I hope you find a solution, but I admit I'm really enjoying those pics!

That photo of the ducks running away is too funny!

Ducks in the pools! Haahaaaa! I know there's the ick factor, and I wouldn't like it either, but there's something very funny about this thread - like a comedy farce of duck/human wills!

@nala ok tell you what. Send them to us at the jersey shore. At least for the summer and then they can head back to you when the weather gets too harsh here for them. (Can I return with them when the weather turns colder here? :cheeky:).

Our ducks are waiting for them. With open webbed feet.

Hubby uses the skimmer net from above to swoop down on them. They think it is a predator hawk and fly away, but they sometimes return. I know, pain in the rear.

Sometimes it is not just Mr. And Mrs. Duck, but two males trying to mate with a female.

They even visit in the rain :lol-2:house_ducks_visiting_in_rain.jpg

F14BC181-7069-498A-865B-197B2CFB5B1D.jpeg Ok...i will help. We can perch this redneck and the little “redneck in training” at the side of the pool. They will be far less unsightly than the ducks :roll2:! Less messy too, let me tell you. They will only leave their socks and shoes wherever they lie, never pick up a dish unless asked, the little one even throws trash around the house as if he lives in a dump...but you won’t have a duck problem anymore!!

I’m dealing with ducks on a daily basis too this year, at least 6 times a day every day. It’s mating season and they’re very persistent. Luckily I have a dog who will chase the ducks away, but they come back so frequently even she isn’t up for the challenge by the umpteenth time. They don’t mind swimming with inflatables, they just stay on the opposite side. I keep tennis balls by the door and toss them if I can get the door open quietly, but this has been going on for a couple weeks now and the ducks have learned to get out of the pool as soon as they hear the door open. They try to hide in the plants until the coast is clear.

I took this photo about an hour ago...they heard me coming.
