If you can afford it, why not?

What she said!

But I will add one thing, getting new settings makes upgrades expensive. So reach for what you think you'll be happy with for a long time when you do upgrade. Your set is beautiful but obviously the e-ring would have to be remade for a 2 ct stone.

DSS set in for me about 2 months after I got engaged, so no, you're not crazy. Or we're both crazy! :cheeky: I upgraded from a 1.91 to 2.49, which isn't a huge jump, but big enough for me to be really really happy with my ring with no plans to upgrade in the future. We were also able to get a setting close to my original for really cheap (solitaire for less than $800 in platinum), so we lucked out on that. I'm really happy I did it because it put my mind at ease instead of obsessing over how small I felt my diamond was. My fiance is also super happy because he can stop listening to me talking about it. But I agree with DS, if you can afford it, go for it. If not, maybe you can consider reseting it in a halo, like SarahBear's, or putting it away for a little while and pulling it out again. For many PSers, this little trick has worked. I did it for about 2 weeks, and still felt DSS.

Don't worry about what everyone thinks, you are the one wearing the ring and should be happy! If your fiance is okay with it and it's financially feasible, why not?!?

If an upgrade is not feasible, put the ring away for a day or two, then when you wear it again, it'll look big. Our minds like to play such tricks on us sometimes.

DSS? Does that mean diamond seems small?
Your rings are so beautiful, but I agree that there is nothing wrong with going bigger if it is worth it to you financially. I don't know that it would be worth it to me unless I went considerably bigger. What would that be, 2c? That's for you to decide. In the meantime, you have an amazing set!
In the real world your diamond is a very nice size. There is an unbelievable number of large diamonds on this site. I don't see those size diamonds every day. That's one of the reasons I like to come here, to see all the amazing jewels.
I am assuming that you have an upgrade option? That makes a big difference economically, and all the more reason to get what you really want.
Again, love your choices, very elegant. You would only be crazy if you changed your setting :loopy:

DSS happens, sometime sooner than later. I agree with the others -- if you can manage it, go for it!

But the main reason I'm posting is to say how much I adore your current setting and the look of your whole set.

Thanks 04diamond, dimondseeker, sweetpea, chrono, AnnaH and GemFever. I called Adam and am going to look at a few options tomorrow - a 1.93 (8.29mm) and a 2.11 (8.19mm). I'll see what the reality of an upgrade would be and if I fall in love with anything. You never know, I may decide it's not that much of a difference for the amount of money...

While I'm at it, though I have the upgrade option with OWD, is there anywhere else I should look? I'm not even going to pretend to be OEC savvy enough to evaluate by sight on ebay.

I swear PS just leeches on to you and DSS sets in 10000x faster then it would if you never found this website.

I personally love antique diamonds :lickout: I would trade in a larger, high color diamond anyday for an OMC/ OEC/ AC with big old chucky facets  However with that said many of my friends think my AC is "ugly" compared to their princess cuts- and yes they have said that to my face! So I would totally do the trade in as long as you have seen old cuts in person and like them...well actually love them! If you are trading in for size only I would hold out and see if you can get something on the secondary market for cheaper.

What??? Ugly??? Are they totally NUTS???? :o

Sarah, I think your friends are jealous =)

DS, thanks for clearing that up. The diamond doesn't just "seem" small; it actually shrinks :o

Yes, mentally.

Sarahbear - your friends are crazy! I love old cuts. I think they're so much more interesting and full of character than modern "perfect" diamonds.

Is there a video on GOG comparing a princess cut with an AVC or AVR? Seeing is believing IMO. Princess cuts are known to have a lot of leakage unless you buy one cut for performance. Ignorance is bliss. What you don't know you just don't know.

But to each his own as to the type of faceting one prefers.

Thanks DS, AnnaH and KDarling! I love my old cut. I honestly think I have an old soul when it comes to diamonds. I love the romantic aspects behind an old cut. I have tried to explain this a few times to my friends but they look at me like i have 3 heads. And yes between just us PSers I do think they are just a tiny bit jealous, though not because of the actual diamond, but more that my DH likes to spoil me.

Ariel- Definitely to each their own. If anything I think the point I have learned the most from PS is that all diamonds are beautiful. The 4 C's can't really be prioritized as it will vary by individuals.

Hee hee this made me laugh. It also makes me think of how much my FI spoils me too. I'd agree that it's their jealousy coming out because your ring is unbelievably beautiful. Otherwise maybe they are blinded, and all they see is glare? ;))

I agree with SB on her advice.

WTF, yeah, what rude jerks!

KDarling, I hate DSS. But then again, I also have DTDBS-- Diamond's Too Damned Big Syndrome! I have a 2.1 ct OEC that looks fine some days, small some days, then way-too-effing-big-omg-go-away other days. People have assumed it's fake, have made rude remarks about my finances, asked what sexual favors I had to give my partner (*I* bought it!), etc... And just plain GAWK. Those days, I feel insecure.. And opt for my 0.7ct. Like today.

You're not crazy. I think we PSers are just OBSESSED with our rings when other "normal" people just don't care as much. We stare at our bling and think about them too much. It's an illness, I swear ;)

If you can afford it, def go for bigger. But save up for your upgrade, including setting, of your dreams. It would suck to go up to X size and pay $$$ for a nice setting... To want larger again in another short time frame!

I think that my DH would have an issue if I started talking about wanting a new diamond in just a few, short months (and I would have to wonder if there was an issue with me - with things never being good enough). I suppose if money is if no concern at all, then that helps, but personally, I wouldn't be talking about getting a new ring in that short time span.

I understand how people have different taste but calling yours ugly? I'm scratching my head

Your diamond is beautiful and in a perfect setting. I wish you could keep it AND get a bigger one :rodent:
