I posted last summer that I had gotten a beautiful 2.28ct (~8.4mm) in a Danhov solitaire setting which I LOVE! But with my thick and long size 7 fingers, it’s already looking kinda puny. :???:

I’m now looking for something in the 2.5-2.8 range. My current stone is from Frank Darling, a CVD with an IGI cert, but I’ve been reading here about GCAL 8x and would love to snag something of that quality, around G-H color VS1 clarity. I’ve expanded my search to other online vendors (grown brilliance, Adiamor, Friendly diamonds) but it’s so overwhelming!

@DejaWiz and @Kim N i know you’re amazing at helping find winners. Any thoughts or advice on where I should look? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply! $5k and under would be ideal but I have some wiggle room. ;)2

Please note: I am an enabler... LOL!
I went from a 2.27 (that was a bit deep so it looked proportionately smaller) to a 2.72 and they basically look the same to me... so if you're trying to combat DSS i would say maybe go even bigger... :evil2:

Hi thank you, Kim! How were you able to find that one? I promise I did a search and only checked GCAL and nothing came up in that size. Maybe I’m putting my parameters in too tight?

I’ll check this one out. It’s always hard to tell from pics and videos but does it look like it has any haziness?

I also only checked GCAL in my search. I don't see any haziness in the video.

Also check out Frank Darling...lots to pick from north of 2.5 carats in D-G color for your budget, especially if you have some wiggle room. They can get you ASET scope images of a few diamonds that you narrow your list down to and ask them to call in.

I have a 7.5 size. Your ring is absolutely gorgeous but I’d go to 3ish carats. Will you be trying to use same setting? I just purchased a stone from Ritani. Well within budget and everything went very smoothly.

Thank you, @pinklemonadegurl. I do love a good six prong solitaire and you know when you get to the size 7 ring size and up, it’s hard to satisfy finger coverage. I’ve been thinking about a 3-stone lately with either pears or half moons because sometimes I think that’s the only way to not see finger on either side of the sparkle.
a new setting would be cheaper than getting a bigger stone, but I don’t know if I would miss the solitaire look. decisions, decisions…

Ok, another question. Is a GCAL 8x cert significantly better than a GCAL without the 8x rating? I’m comparing the 8x stones from Adiamor to the regular GCAL ones on the Ritani site and, from what I can see, most of the ones on Ritani have the symmetry rated as VG which of course negates the 8x.

But is the difference that great where I would notice a difference in performance? Are there any other huge differences I should look out for if I go with a GCAL non 8x stone? The prices are better on Ritani but I don’t know if that’s always a good thing.

@Ionysis i just tried to take bunch and the lighting at this time of day in my house is terrible so here is the link from my post when I received it. Hope it works.

I absolutely love the setting and I know the bigger diamond won’t be able to fit it, so I’ll also be looking for another six prong solitaire setting once I find the stone.

Oooh that’s lovely. And I agree the setting is perfect.

The PA and the CA both fall out of bounds for GCAL 8X criteria in this specific case.

Some of the non-8x stones are still well cut while not meeting the 8x standards. However, I try to find stones with crown angles of 34-35 and pavilion angles of 40.6-40.9.
