Last night I went to visit one of the dresses I had loved when I first tried on dresses with the idea that I was just going to make sure I was making the right choice with the Paloma Blanca that I had set my heart on in thread 3. Link:

Previous Trips

After trying on the dress I had come back to see along with a few new ones, they could tell that I was still leaning towards the Paloma and encouraged me to try a few more things on and I was open too it because I was still feeling a little indecisive about the Paloma, mostly because everyone I showed the pics too seemed lukewarm towards it.

The first dress I tried my mom cried! (After she has seen me in over 100 dresses). Does this mean it is the dress? My mom is soo not a crier at all... I love it too, but I have reservations because it is much different than anything I have ever pictured (more fitted) and the fabric isn''t as nice as the Paloma. Unfortunately this store doesn''t allow pictures.

What would you do, pick the one that I love and had set myself on and that is a better quality fabric or the one that both my mom and I love but is lesser quality.

Do you have a photo of the new dress? Like one from the designer''s website at least? I''d love to envision the new contender

I can''t find a picture of it anywhere online... They told me that it is by a local designer that doesn''t advertise. I thought that this was just a story they told me to try and hide the designer, but maybe not! It is very similar to the pronovias diamante from the front, but it has some lace details scattered on it. The back also mirrors the front on the dress I tried ( it has a v-back), ulike the pronovias that goes into spaghetti straps.

Which one do YOU love more? That is more important than anything else. In my almost two years of wedding planning, I can't tell you how many times I came across brides having second thoughts about the dress they chose because their moms loved it the most, and for that reasson, they felt pressured to buy it.

Unless you're in a hurry, I'd sleep on it for a while. I didn't buy my dress for months after I'd found it because I wanted to make sure it truly was the one. Wedding dresses aren't cheap, and I didn't want any regrets!

Well said. It''s your day, you need to get the one you love.

Thanks for the feedback. Ebree and Neatfreak: I love them both when not on... I like how the new dress looks on me better, but the quality is less which is holding me back. The Paloma I like how it looks, but I love how it feels. I don''t think the new dress looks cheap necessarily, but it just doesn''t feel as nice on though both make me feel pretty.

So I guess what I was trying to ask is: would you choose a slightly more flattering dress in a lesser quality fabric or a less flattering dress that is a nicer quality fabric?

If I remember correctly, the Paloma sample was too small, right? That might have something (major!) to do with how flattering you felt it was.

If you think the Paloma won't be as flattering in your size than the other in the lesser quality fabric, to be honest, I'd keep looking. Find something that is beautiful on AND feels luxurious. I know what you mean about wanting nice fabric- that was important to me, too.

Ebree - They are both too small - all samples have been on me which I think complicates the matter for me. I also am out of stores in my area after Saturday. I only have one left.

Interestingly, there is a girl on my local knot board who just posted about having her polyester taffeta dress fabric replaced (along with many other major changes) for a much more reasonable price than I would have thought. So if the only thing holding me back is the fabric maybe this is a real option for me...

I would choose the dress that looks more flattering on. In the photos, nobody is going to be able to tell which one is better fabric, and if you feel it is more flattering on you, then that''s the dress you should get. I wouldn''t choose based on your mom....you and she may have very different opinions, you need to choose the dress that feels right when you are wearing it (after all, that''s how everybody else is going to see it).

pick the one you love and you look best in. I have to tell you, you can''t tell how cheap a fabric is in pictures. I can''t tell the difference between a silk and a polyester dress in pictures. I would ask the store if they can give you a fabric sample of both dresses and take pictures of them. See how the light bounces off it. I would consider your mom''s reaction in your choice, but ultimately it boils down to what makes you look and feel best.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. I feel like I''ve read on PS about some designers (Maggie Sottero comes to mind) who will offer a few choices on the fabric. Maybe you can get it made in silk (or whatever the Paloma was made out of)? I bet especially if its a private label designer that can be done if you''re willing to pay for it.

I love the diamante by the way. I think that is a style that will still be "in" 25 years from now when you''re showing your kids your wedding photos. Its so simple and classic and gorgeous.

March, GTN, Bee, Claritek thank you all for the replies. After thinking about it for a few days now, I''ve realized that when I think about choosing the Paloma over this new dress, I feel sad about giving up the new dress but when I think about choosing the new dress over the Paloma, the only thing I feel sad about it is how the fabric feels, not the dress as a whole, so I think I have made a decision finally!

I am going to try it on again over Thanksgiving weekend with my friend and hopefully will order it then. I''m still going to see if they can do it in a different fabric, but since they were very specific about it only being available in ivory, I don''t know how good of luck I will have with that. Either way, I will still love the dress.

It sounds like you''ve arrived at a decision and I''m so happy that you feel good about it and are comfortable with the fabric options on the new dress.

I personally like how the new dress looks. If they both feel good and look good, I don''t think quality needs to really play a part. But again, how do you feel in each dress? Which one do you imagine yourself standing in looking at the love of your life
