So, my beautiful wedding gown came in and I had my first fitting yesterday. The dress is too short. It was measured for me wearing 2 1/2 inch heels, and now I would have to wear flats. I am 4'11 and upset about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They claim they measured me right, despite the fact EVERYONE with me heard I was measured for 2 1/2 inch shoes ( I was wearing them!).

My Mom is calling today after distressing and going to fight to have them fix it............but I doubt they will do anything.

Any ideas on what else to do?

You have your order form? What''s the hem to hallow? I would double check the measurements and see if they match the gown.

I''m so sorry, that''s terrible.

I checked and saw your wedding isn''t until the end of August. Is there any way that they can order another one and have it rushed?

It definitely sounds like it''s their fault. Why would anyone ever order a dress that wouldn''t allow them to wear any kind of heels? (I know some people do like to wear flats, but the majority of women would prefer at least a little heel, so you''d think they wouldn''t do that unless you explicitly stated you were wearing flats and didn''t want the extra length). You would think that most places would make sure there was a least a little extra length, given that you can take it off but you can''t really put more on after the fact.

I really hope you get this fixed and it works out for you.

Oh no! What a horrible, stressful situation. I really hope that they agree to resolve this.

Gypsy- We are going to find it and go back to see if it matches.

Espressa- My wedding was moved to July 25th, so time is an issue

I hope this gets fixed. I cannot help but cry over the whole thing.

*HUGS* remember, no matter what happens, you will look GORGEOUS on your wedding day! Never forget that!

Ack! I had the same thing happen! I''m 5''0 and wore 2.5 inch heals and my dress was too short too! My seamstress had hemmed it to somehow retain extra fabric and lace, so she was able to drop it some, but it never was the length I had wanted.

I''m so sad for you; when is your wedding? Can they get and alter another one?

I am so sad for you, too.

that must be a really horrible feeling.

I wouldn''t accept it. a dress is an expensive thing and you didn''t order a short dress. I would say, "I will not accept this. So what are you going to do about it so you don''t ruin my wedding?"

Oh, no! I am so sorry...I can imagine how you must feel! I really hope the salon comes through and does the right thing to make this right for you!

I''m sooo sorry you have to deal with this! I''m 4''11" also and I would be incredibly dissapointed if I couldn''t wear heels with my dress. I hope it all works out... is there a little bit of a hem that they could possibly let down?

I am so sorry!!

I hope they can fix this for you.

Okay, I''m really worried about this, too, because my hem to hollow and "dress only" measurements do not match up... and I was measured TO wear flats, so if mine comes in too short, I''m gonna have a highwater gown!!!!!!!

I hope you can find your paperwork. If the measurements they took don''t match up to the gown, they should have an obligation to RUSH order you a new one free of charge!!!!

Talk to the manager/owner of the bridal salon asap. If anything they should have made it too long to be on the safe side. Anyway I had a dress disaster myself except my dress was too small in the hips...I made a big stink about it, and at the end of the day the salon had the manufacturer overnight a panel of fabric and they remade my gown from the waist down. You do have options! Just make sure they know you are serious! Good Luck!

Oh that is horrible! Just wanted to send some hugs and dust for everything working out!

Oh no-that''s awful! I hope that they will fix it for you. Sending hugs.

Oh UCLABelle, I''m so sorry! The same thing happened to me with my first dress, so I understand how devastating it is.

Good luck!

Wow, UCLABelle - I hopw everything gets worked out.

Take Appletini''s advice and make a polite stink out of it. They owe YOU since you''re the one who''s paying for your dress!

Thank you all so much for your support. We made a polite stink and will be meeting with the manager on Thursday evening. At first I was easy going about it, until I started to realize that I was sad and unhappy with the dress (i.e. it being too short, etc)....

I hope this works out

I will be sending some prayers your way.

((Hugs!))

I''m hoping the hem to hollow doesn''t match the dress, that the dress IS short. Cause then you have serious cause for a fuss. Otherwise, the receipt probably says that they will order what''s on the form, and that they are relieved of liability to the extent that they did. Did ya pay with a credit card?

Oh no. I am SO sorry. This is your WEDDING dress. If you have to - beg, kick, cry, scream but do what you have to to MAKE THEM FIX IT!!!! It was their mistake and they should fix it, even if it means rushing you a new dress!!! Good luck!!

What happens if they can''t fix the dress, do they have to rush order you a new one or do they allow you to get a new one of your choice?

I would hope they would go above and beyond no matter what it is. GOOD LUCK!
THis is good to know by the way. I''m going to MAKE SURE that they are well aware that they better get the length right or ELSE.

Oh, UCLA, I am SO sorry to hear this about your dress! I am so worried that mine will come in the wrong length, as well, and mine''s not scheduled to be in until the 3rd week of June, and I leave for Maui on July 17th! You posted one of my biggest fears, and I am just sick to my stomach for you. Who was the designer of your gown?

I do hope you get some results from the manager, and if not, I would contact your local BBB and possibly news station. One of ours here will go to bat for consumers who have been taken until the company/store makes things right, and they usually do after being thrown to the wolves! I hope it doesn''t come to that, but just something to keep in the back of their mind if they are not willing to make things right for you.

{HUGS!!!} Hang in there!

well if it''s too late to alter it back to make it longer... or there''s no other way to fix the dress - then at least you are going to be absolutely comfortable in flats! i have to wear 4" heels and i''m imagining that my feet are going to be very sore.

i hope things work out though - anything is possible. =)

Yikes

So sorry UCLA!

I just got the call from my seamstress to let me know that my dress is ready - Now, I''m kind of nervous about the length on my gown also....yikes

Thanks again for all of the suggestions-----I won''t know much until Thursday night when we meet with the manager and go over everything. The dress was by Jim Hjelm and is lace (which I guess is hard to alter!)......but for the nearly 4K spent, I think it should be close to perfect....

If it doesn''t work, and they claim we are at fault, I will probably have to buy a whole new dress, because I tried it on with flats at the store, took pics, and you can still see my ankles from the front......

HOW are you at fault??? Seriously? THEY measured you. IN FLATS it''s too short!! And YOU are magically at fault?? PLEASE tell me you paid with a credit card Belle.

OMG, it's THAT bad?? Either the person who measured you seriously screwed up, or the dress was made incorrectly at the factory. Either way, there's no way it's YOUR fault. Make it clear that they have a responsibility to clear this up, and that their actions, either way, will be widely publicized on theknot.com, google reviews, yahoo reviews, etc.

ETA: I wonder if it's possible that they gave the manufacturer an actual dress length measurement, and the factory took it to be a hollow to hem. That would explain the missing inches, for sure.

UPDATE: They measured the hallow to hem without shoes on and with the 2 1/2" heels I bought. They ordered the dress wrong (without shoes hallow to hem) and therefore are fixing the length by sending it back free of charge :)
