Oh thanks Steal!

Not yet I am doing my final exam for my 5 year degree (I hope I will be finished) and then I will be going to try it on! Shall give an update when I have.

I'll be waiting...

Well done on almost finishing your degree :appl: ; Keep on at it!

Ok Ladies so updates:

I finished my 5 year degree yay! We finalised the stone yesterday (OMG) and now I am just going about making appointments with jewelers. I am a bit confused as to what sort of pave I want. I think I want:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5509
but I wonder what other options for the pave I have. Any ideas?

So I spose to SO and he said that if the dress was available now who cares if I got it before he did ask though is it bad luck which made me think so I am a bit worried. I am not planning on purchasing just trying it on to see whether it really is THE dress or get it out of my system. Is that a good idea?

Hi Mif :wavey:

I am starting to have a sneaking suspicion that you may be studying/finishing studying at the institute where I teach ;))

Anyway, like you, my style doesn't change, so I will be totally comfortable with getting something now and knowing I will wear it 2 years down the track (anticipated wedding date is sometime early 2012).

My advice is if you do end up getting this dress now, DO NOT try on another dress once you buy it! That way, you will remain absolutely (ceteris paribus) happy with this dress.

If you don't end up buying it now, that particular dress doesn't look very hard to make. If you are very particular and perfectionistic, you can have this tailor made to your size. Surprisingly, there are a number of good fabric stores in Sydney (I'm not thinking Lincraft here btw, more specialist stores) and they will be able to source the material for you. Caveat is, if you want it tailor made, find a good pattern maker and have them cut a pattern to YOUR size and they will usually know some reliable makers to sew the dress.

Also going to ramble a bit about my dress here. I found a dress in literally 15 mins from the Pronovias website. It's a Valentino dress and my mum has offered to make it for me (she used to sew for a bridal designer before going into haute couture). I will NOT be trying on any other dresses (partly cos I never have the time to go out, and partly cos I hate picking, choosing - too confusing and I will end up wanting them all). The good thing about a tailor made dress is, you can have it somewhat customised to hide your flaws or accentuate your strong points, and potentially add in something that is not on the original design.

Not sure if I am of any help...

p.s what venues do you have in mind?

p.p.s CONGRATS on finishing! :appl: :appl: Such an exciting time....remember to enjoy yourself to the fullest before succumbing to the 9-5 ;))

I am trying to enjoy the time off but feeling a little guilty haha!

Umm not sure loads of venues I love but since I have no idea when he is going to give me the ring I can't really work it out haha I imagine oct 2012 and I love opera point marquee, MCA (not sure if the renos will be done then), Doltone House. You?

I love MCA!! Would love to have it in the main exhibition hall but the min. numbers is too large. I'm only planning a smallish wedding of under 100 ppl and I think it's a 200 ppl min for the main hall.

Anyway, I haven't set a date either, only a rought time period. Can't do anything after April or before November as I can't deal with the cold. Current places I am contemplating are either Four Seasons on George St or Sheraton on the Park. I quite like Hyde Park, not sure if they will allow ceremonies there, but if they do, will be really convenient for the guests since the hotels will be very close by.

Oh yes Four Seasons is amazing too.

Yes I wanted to have it in the foundation hall, we will be having about 200 people so maybe if it is renovated by then.

Where the heck are the pictures? Here I am, looking at this thread bumped up and thinking ***oooh I'm looking forward to seeing how MIF got on with the dress*** and N.o.t.h.i.n.g.

Don't get me wrong , I am so delighted that the stone is picked and love pave but lady - did you go to the strore or not. If so where are the pictures?

hahah Steal, love your interest. I am going this week hopefully Monday or Tuesday! Will report back asap!!!

I'll be waiting

I am going on Wednesday so will update then.

Ok ladies, going tomorrow morning to try on the dress.

What do you think would be best to say or ask about the engagement? Should I just say the ring is in production at the moment and leave it at that?

I feel a bit funny going when I haven't had the official proposal yet.

I think you should go try it on. If it's still your dream dress after that, you can talk to the store if they will let you put a down payment on the dress or whether they will notify you when they plan to discontinue it.

Also, I wouldn't keep it from your SO if you do end up buying it.

ETA: I just saw you're going to try it on. Great. Bring back pics! About the engagement -- I wouldn't say anything unless asked and then I'd say the truth -- that the proposal is imminent. You won't be the first bride-to-be that comes into that store before she's formally engaged.

Sorry double post.

Thanks MsCushion.

I have already broached the subject with my SO. He said he doesn't mind if I find the dress before as long as he isn't paying for it hahaha typical.

Yes so a bit nervous but also excited to try it on. Either way I will have to keep trying some on. I will be trying on this one and two other styles tomorrow just to get a comparison. Shall be interesting.

They have said to me I can make a small downpayment to secure it regardless. They won't be discontinuing it as far as they know but if I do love it I don't want to risk missing out.

Ok ladies. I tried it on today and OMG. It is the dress of my dreams. It is everything I wanted and it looks amazing. I feel like when he has made the actual proposal I will be going to try on other dresses at other stores just to make everyone happy but it is the one. Ahhhhh yay!!!!

yay!!! if it is the dream dress then it is the dream dress-you just know it is the one.

(I bought my dress over a year and a half before the wedding, but even thinking about it I get really excited :) )

Hehe thanks for the support.

It is the one. Now begins the wait for the official proposal! :-)

Pics?

I am delighted to hear that the dress looked perfect on you. :appl:

But you know ***shuffling her feet** sometimes it can be good to get a second opinion. And if you were to have any hang up's about posting a picture on t'internet of a young lady in a bridal dress before she had her e-ring on her finger. You could always photoshop.   Snip and share. Just saying, I want pictures. And I KNOW you took pictures. My spidey sense is doing all kinds of tingling....

mscushion: I'm with you!

Haha I only took one and it looks very average because it was 2 sizes too big particularly noticeable around the waist wish I had taken the photo of when she had pulled it in around the waist :( but you might get the idea. It actually makes me look very wide but anyway.

I love the fullness of the skirt means I can eat hahah do you think it makes me look too big (I am a US 4-6 but with a 34D chest this dress is great for creating a smaller bust) any thoughts?

They said they also can raise the height of the neckline or alter it to a sweatheart if I like and will have to order it longer as I am 5'11.

Haha. I KNEW you had pics. ;))

I totally see it. I wish you had got the pic when she pulled it tight. I bet it is a complete princess dress. Don't alter the bust/neckline. It is perfect as it is. If you change it, it becomes any other dress.

When she pulled it, did the waist band sit on your waist nicely? That would be my concern - to be sure it fit my body length perfectly.

That said, nice find. ;))

p.s. it looks very expensive

Hahah unfortunately it is very expensive but because I have over a year till the day they do a payment plan which is good.

Well I have a very short body and very long legs so it sits perfectly and defines my waist when pulled in but in the photo it just isn't tight enough and obviously being 2 sizes too big doesn't fit well.

I love it, is it a wow dress? Honest opinions (if you can imagine it pulled in like this: http://www.amsale.com/bridal/bluelabel/080211/080211590.shtml

I feel very exposed posting a photo of myself on here  not looking my best.

Yeah, you do look rough. :o Having no head and all. You big silly, how can a headless woman with a rocking body not look it's best? Are you fishing for compliments? I'll take a bite. You have fab shoulders & arms (the bit I can see) made for a dress like this.

It is a WOW dress in my book. It is a princess dress; meaning royalty, not spoiled sweet 16 brat. It whispers elegance and dainty demure beauty. It could very well be 'the one'. But only you know that.

I tell you, I am dedicated. It took me an age to open that link (really slow internet) and yup if you have the classic short body and long legs you will look your best in a dress like this. Just make sure the pleats that fold over the middle of your waist to your tummy are flattened down - the model in the 1st pic needs to have her two centre pleats smoothed down and the sash band more closely fitted/pulled down a smidge.

If you would like me to nit-pick. I don’t like the sash colour – too fleshy. Needs to be more pink or more cream/ivory. But I imagine they will match it to your colour scheme anyway.

Thank you so much Steal for your in depth anaylsis. It's exactly what I was after. Wasn't fishing but thank you for the compliments. I just felt a bit funny posting but it is good to get some advice from objective parties.

Yes I agree I think I would like a stronger sash to define my waist as I have a very small waist (not that you can see it here).
The sash is attached to the dress so I might have to put a ribbon over it in another colour or find an option.

I do have a shorter body not much of a torso very long limbs and this dress seems to hide that and even me out which I love.

We will more than likely be getting married in a cathedral with over 200 guests, followed by a black tie reception so this dress pretty much fits the bill and it is how I imagined looking on my day.

You are so welcome honey. It is such an exciting time for any lady.

Oooh a cathedral wedding :appl: you may very well have made the perfect gown choice for such a formal setting. I can see now why you were so keen on it. Oh and defo work on the sash.

Now, back to busy-ness. How is BF getting on with your rock?

I really like the dress - it's pretty. :)

Thanks ladies!

Well it is going to be ready before the 22nd of Dec so then it is up to him. He said to me the other day that he and his mother were talking about christmas presents and also that she was giving him jewellery magazines and asking if he'd been to see the vendor and he said yes etc. He made a bit of a slip up (i hope) it sounded like it might be an xmas present. Ahh that'd be amazing!!!

I have designed it and I am the one in touch with the jeweller so I know all about it, it is just the surprise proposal but no one else knows but the two of us. Well his mother knows but doesn't know I know haha.

Thanks for posting a pic! :appl:

It's a 'wow' dress for sure -- as Steal said, it's very regal (particularly at your height!) and I think it will be very fitting for your cathedral, black-tie wedding. I have a pretty strong affinity for dresses like this -- I love it. The color of the waistband doesn't bother me, but I agree that it needs to really lie perfectly flat against your waist.

What a gorgeous dress!!! You look stunning in it, I agree with everyone else it looks perfect for the wedding you want!
