So I have purchased what I think is the perfect stone for who I think is the perfect woman (at least for me) :) It''s a gorgeous GIA G VS2 2.3ct Cushion Brilliant. It''s Square and Fat and Goregous. I had it in the box for a while and finally got it set in a Tiffany Style White Gold Temp Setting, the Jeweler agreed to apply the price of this setting towards the custom one we will build together once I propose.

The problem is, I liked the loose stone more in the box than in the temp ring! I thought the right setting would make the stone look bigger, brighter, and more alive....that is just not the case. I think the split prongs are too thick and the head (I think that''s what it''s called) hides a lot of the depth/fatness of the cushion which makes the stone look smaller than it really is.

I know I should not obsess about just a temporary setting, but I want my lady to be blown away when I give her this ring. I''m contemplating switching out the temp setting.....any suggestions? Ultimately we''ll probably get a thin pave band....but the prongs/cradle (head) are what is giving me the most concern.

Any thoughts would really help out. Thanks and happy new year.

Do you have some pictures so we can see what you are talking about? Would be helpful!

Much of the beauty of a setting is the skill of the setter who shapes the prongs and polishes things. If those are not done well then the whole thing looks poopy to me. Post a picture and we can tell you if it is done well.

I would suggest you contact BGD and get a nice simple solitaire from them. Not sure if you want to go custom with a jeweler who cannot get a temp setting right?

A classic solitaire mount always looks great and you can trade it towards a future ring.
