So I contacted BGD to ask more about three stones on their website. Its more of a starting point for me rather than me REALLY being interested in THOSE specific stones. I need to start knowing how to evaluate a stone on my own. So I picked three stones and Lesley sent me the ASET, Sarin, Idealscope, Pics of the stone, image showing the hearts pattern, etc. But I feel so silly because I don''t really know how to evaluate the pics on my own.

I''d post them here but they are larger than PS allowed attachments ie. they are bigger than 100KB and I have no idea how to resize them. So now I feel silly that I asked for the pics but a) don''t know what to look for on my own and b) can''t post them here.

I could post the specs on the stones but I know that ppl will ask for the pics of the specs look good. There are little things I notice about the pics i.e. non perfectly symmetrical arrows, dark patches that I don''t know the relevance of, etc.

Can anyone either:

-refer me to a list of things to look for in each of those images above?
-let me know how I can go about posting the images here?

I feel so silly.....

I guess I should also mention that I also have reservations about posting all the details about a stone here, since some lurker could snatch up a stone if it gets good feedback. But if I never post any specs here I''ll never get advice or learn how to make my own preliminary assessment.

Also, I''m looking for a RB 1-1.5 carat, G colour and SI1 but must be "eyeclean". If anyone has any suggestions, please post. I''d prefer BGD or Whiteflash or GOG. I''m leaning heavily towards Brian Gavin for the setting. Ideally I''d like to get a stone from him to avoid having to send a stone TO him but I''m willing to broaden the search to those three vendors to get more options.

Thanks a million!

Do you have the program "paint" on your pc? Every computer comes with it pretty much, look under accessories. Just cut/past a picture into that program and resize it, re-save as an original name that no one else on PS has ever used and upload.

If you can't cut/paste just open Paint and then open the picture using that program. I use it to resize all my pictures I post here.

If the stones are RB, you can start by plugging the numbers into the HCA. You can also just post the stats and pictures without actually posting a link or telling where the stones are from...

hope you get some help, good luck!!

I would venture to say that any of BGD Signature H&A diamonds is going to be a beauty. From seeing many of his other diamond pics, the dark patches are usually reflections of something else in the room, like the camera, wall, clothing, etc. I would be shocked if one of his diamonds was not symmetrical, usually that appearance is just because the diamond is not perfectly aligned with the camera.

Hope those threads help, I''d love to see pics of the diamonds.

Try opening the image with a viewer, then print screen with the keyboard button, open the paint program (if you are using windows, it will be there under accessories) and past it there. Then adjust the size by cropping the image and pasting new again and saving it until you get to the correct size.

Or just request for help from the admin.

Ok I''ll try the above advice.

I know I don''t have to say where the pics are from but the ones Lesley sent say BGD on them and I don''t know how to get rid of it :)

I''d also be surprised if they were duds but bc I still can''t evaluate pics on my own there are features that I''d like to ask about so that I can get an explanation of WHY this or that dark spot or this or that slightly non perfect arrow is still okay.

Stay tuned for pics.... (crossing fingers).

Don''t list colour or clarity - just post numbers from the cert. Carat we''ll know from the Sarin - no problem, it''s a decent level of opacity

Of course you want to make your own evaluation but I'd say anything BGD has in stock is primo and could be bought sight unseen. Do your homework and have your search narrowed down so when Lesely finds what you are looking for you can respond. You should be somewhat serious about the stones you are inquiring about.

I've never seen a rejected stone come from Brian Gavin. He hand-picks them.

Looking at the photo, it's perfection!

2nd Impeccable stone!

Thanks again. I think what I''ll do is post the pics I had questions about in a new thread.

I feel this way too, unless you are a *very* diamond obsessed person and want a specific set of angles etc.

My FI saw about 20 of them at the same time. He said the only difference he noticed was size, otherwise they all looked the same. He said even Brian would get confused sometimes and have to pull out the loop and read the number on the stone to figure out which one it was!

But the picture you put up looks great.

Wow, that''s very reassuring then. For someone like me who can''t really wrap her head around the numbers and angles, etc, it''d be easier knowing that all I have to concentrate on is carat, colour and clarity desired. With a BGD, it sounds like that is the case. Price wise though, should I shop around at Whiteflash and GOG to see if I can find something like BGD for a bit less? OR should I just pay the premium for the BGD knowing that it''ll be a great stone?

For example:

1) Find potential stones on WF and GOG websites and then post the specs and images here for PS expert approval? With this method maybe the legwork will mean the stone will cost less?

OR

2) Save on all the number crunching and picture evaluation and just stick with a BGD? With this method will I be paying a premium for knowing I''d get a well cut stone without having to run all the PS "tests" on it?

What would you do?

I don''t know enough to be able to demand a certain combo of angles so I''d just be looking for something that got the PS two thumbs up.

OK, well that makes it easiER then. Seems like if I stick to a H&A stone, esp a WF ACA or a BGD ACA I will get a good performer.

Thanks!
