i meant the thread in the opposite spirit... whether your tastes might indicate something about your personality - not in a status marker sense or buy this and you'll be that. agree with you about the signaling and it's not just in the auto industry though that's one of the worst offenders.

Well yes in a way- since it's a mix of high end, middle & department store items- which i guess is how I dress.
But irl I'm not a fancy smooth fashionista so no. Not really. Lol.
I'm a simple stahm, so idk what I'm doing with this jewelry really.
 
I aspire to be smooth & glamorous but nope... im not . Le sigh.

When you're talking about ready-for-purchase products, sure, the consumer is not really reflecting his or her personality through the transaction.

When you're talking about one of a kind custom designs, where the buyer SPECIFIES the DESIGN of the product, and the buyer makes creative choices, then the buyer is exercising some creativity, which arguably can reflect on the buyer's personality, instead of being led by the nose by some marketing execs.

For any type of good, there will always be commodity buyers, and custom product buyers. I don't think you should assume everyone is buying a commodity such as an unmounted diamond.
 
I guess mine would be vintage romance. My collection has evolved over time, lots of trial and error and selling but finally figured it out I think.
 
I’ve experimented a lot over the years but I would say lately I have veered towards simple, classic styles which are definitely a reflection of my personal aesthetic. I like being able to wear all my pieces together even on a casual day out and have them complement but not overwhelm my style. I strive for sophisticated yet understated ... not sure I always achieve this but I’m evolving!
