Hi all,

I’m having a hard time confirming if this necklace dates to the early 20th Century, or if it’s a much more recent revival piece. Does anybody here have any experience dating necklaces like this? There are no markings at all on this one, although I’ve been able to confirm that it’s made from sterling silver via acid testing, images below:

It’s almost impossible to separate authentic Art Deco jewellery from modern reproductions without assay marks (all English silver is date hallmarked for eg). Clasps can sometimes provide a clue but a barrel clasp is still used today so that doesn’t help, plus clasps are easily replaced.
The Art Deco style or design is still hugely popular so even pieces made yesterday can still have “the Art Deco look”. In fact in both the 1950s design and again in the 1970s there were Art Deco elements present.
Without hallmarks it might be 800 or lower content silver as it’s very uncommon for sterling silver (925) not be hallmarked as such.
Whatever date, it’s still a lovely piece. Enjoy.

I have never seen a threaded barrel clasp on an antique necklace.
I could be wrong, but I'm gonna guess and say 1970s-80s

Thanks for both of your opinions, I think you're both right and it's a more recent Art Deco piece. Thanks again.
