Hello!

This is the original thread as I was searching for the stone:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/please-help-with-this-lgd…-blue-nuisance.277042/page-2

Making an additional posting here in hopes of getting more eyeballs on the issue. Thank you for the help! I have 7 days to decide to keep the ring or return it… so I am feeling the pressure.

Here is my question…

The 3.3ct ring arrived… but I am not sure about it. It is GIA certified and we checked the laser inscription with a loupe and it matches the certificate. It is an E color, VVS1, triple X, no florescence. The Halloway score was 1.1 and the specs looked good.

I don’t know anything about diamonds when they get to this larger size, so I am looking for help. Does it look dark, grey, blue even to any of you? Or is this totally normal in larger stones? In normal indoor setting or darker lighting it looks very white. But at other times I see a lot of what I can only describe as dark or grey in it.

Some of the photos show my 1.8ct G color diamond as well as my Tiffany embrace wedding band. Those seem to photograph relatively white in all the different lighting.

Thoughts?

I have 7 days to make the return if this isn’t a good one or a keeper. Or is this perfectly normal for larger stones and/or just a photo lighting issue?

Ideal cuts have this look in sunlight. It's not about the size, it's the precision cut. There are a bunch of threads about it (search for "diamond goes dark" or similar). But this is how an ideal cit stone "should" look

I love your ring! It is a beautiful stone.
Are you talking about it goes dark under strong direct sunlight?
For ideal cut diamond, it is normal to goes dark under direct sunlight.
What you want to watch out is when diamond goes grey under indirect sunlight, like inside car, indoor near big bright window area...etc.
Or avoid sun near noon, and go out after 3pm or before 10am to see if stone still go dark.

What is the GIA report number? Can you take some photos in natural light of the side view against a white sheet of paper?

Thank you. You ask briefly what I didn‘t like?… I am not sure . I think I am just really AFRAID. I think it’s fear or making a mistake on a big purchase. I want to make sure I am getting the right quality and visual effect, but I am just not experienced as to what to look for or what a stone of this size should even look like. With this, I also am comparing it to my 1.8 ct stone which has almost identical cut and specs, except it is a G color and this larger stone is an E color. I think I was expecting it to be even more white in color than I am seeing. I do like it. I am just feeling a little unsure and looking for expert opinion and assurance that it is exactly as it should be. Thank you for helping.

The first two were taken outside just in the sun on the white paper. The 3rd was taken inside the house near a window, but with no indoor lights on. The 4th was taken in the kitchen with overhead lights on. Then the hand photos are just inside the bathroom with no lights on and near a window in the house, but no lights on. The stone looks beautifully cut and has no blue nuance. You're good to go!

Yes I do. It’s a 1.8 ct. G. Would you like to buy it?… hahaha . It might actually be for sale soon ;-). It’s a beautiful diamond purchased through Blue Nile and checked every step of the way here on PriceScope <3. It has really nice light performance IMO.

Here's the vendor showcase page, but the video isn't loading for me:

Based on your picture, I'd say all is well!

I think it looks beautiful. Your 1.8ct. Also goes dark in direct sunlight. It’s just the nature of stones. I would do some research on it to put your mind at ease. But I think it’s gorgeous.

like inside car
I have seen this mentioned a few times recently in different threads so im going to address it.
Inside a car is one of the worst places to access diamond light performance and appearance.
Remember the diamond is drawing light from around you and inside a car the headliner is really close to your head, so if its grey or black or red that is what your diamond is seeing.
Or you angle it to catch the sun and it goes dark and puts on a great light show, which is way kewl but not a good way to tell a well cut diamond from one less so.

Over the last nearly 20 years on PS I have seen posted hundreds of times, I was in my car and my diamond did this or that I am worried......

Karl, I would love your opinion on the overall stone (from the specs and photos) as you always offer excellent feedback in other threads I have followed, especially when it comes to the light performance.

I agree with the prosumers excellent advise above.
I'm not seeing anything that says there is a technical issue with the stone.
Whether or not the stone speaks to you is another thing.

Thank you to everyone who commented and for all the help! I always feel more confident when others take a look and say that all looks good and well, and beautiful even. Running it by you all and getting second looks and opinions other than just my own or my husband’s for that matter (he LOVES the ring Btw, thinks it’s the best he has ever laid eyes on to him)… anyway, the village of voices helps my mind a lot. So, thank you. As noted above in another response, I just want to make the best decision and not make a mistake by choosing a stone that might be flawed.. or not even flawed maybe, but not as good as it could be. Seems like it’s all thumbs up for this one. Thank you.
