I'm looking at settings and I found something that my girlfriend should like if it could be slightly modified. Basically looks like this setting
http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=5240&page=1&show_all_pages=1&col=2&row=11&pos=32

I would like the setting lowered as much as possible because my GF doesn't like high settings. I'm being told that by lowering it too much will take away the sparkle. From searching and reading this https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/diamond-setting-and-light-return.33832/
I didn't think how high or low would matter.

I found a Pricescope picture of what appears to be the same setting and from the side the setting looks too high for what I would like. Shouldn't they be able to lower the main setting so it isn't too much higher than the rest of the ring?

if you have an ideal stone (returns a lot of light!) then it will not affect it''s performance.

I like low-set stones, too.

Here is the side view of the setting, if this is lowered should it effect the light of the diamond very much?

Just must sure that you don''t lower the setting so much that your wedding band will not sit flush (unless that does not bother you of course)

How does a closed versus more open setting effect the sparkle and brightness of the diamond?
