This may be a silly question, but I''m wondering if sparkle/fire comes out from side of diamond. ....or does it come out from top only?? If it sparkles from side as well, then may setting preference may change. Thanks!

are you asking if light coming from the side effects the sparkle or if there is actually sparkle in the side of the diamond?

(to answer both) well cut diamonds do not gather light from the sides and the sides do not sparkle.

My radiants sparkle/shoot fire from the sides, just as much as from the top!

My princess doesn''t sparkle as much from the sides, mostly from the top.

I think that the shape and cut of the stone would dictate how much "side sparkle" you''ll get.

I''m sure the experts will chime in.

What kind/shape of stone do you have?

So, can I say that the sides of a round diamond do not sparkle? ...only the top sparkles??
Can some of the professionals confirm this for me?! Thanks!

The side of a round shouldn''t sparkle. It should be completely see through (altho you should see a line in the middle). I suppose you could see a tiny amount of sparkle from the girdle, but it shouldn''t be much since the girdle is such a small surface area in comparison to the rest of the diamond.

Basically, for a round, if you get a setting that completely covers everything except the face (where you look straight down on it), that should be fine.

i think Garry (cut nut)

once said ....if the diamond leaks light through the pavil, then the answer is YES!!!

A faceted girdle will throw off a little bit of sparkle when the light hits it just right..........

Everyone, thank you very much!!
