Does polish wear out?

I have a question about a diamond''s polish. Looking at my new diamond right now, it has high luster and shine, which I think are all characteristics of excellent polish. Does the polish wear off or decrease over time (assuming no damage to the stone)? In other words, is there any special maintenance to retain excellent polish after years of wear? Thanks.

Just keep your diamond clean and your polish will shine. Treat it right and it will keep on smiling...forever.
