Does enamel on jewellery get damaged easily?

hi guys.

Was thinking about my next project - an offset rose cut diamond on a white gold band.

I want to get the band done in cobalt blue enamel, but wanted to know, is enamel hardwearing or does it damage really easily? I’ve had rings rhodium plated before but they mark fairly easily and I wondered if black enamel or blue enamel would be the way to go, to cover the full band.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks.

I think the thickness of the applied enamel, and of course skill of bench comes into play.
But all that aside I would not have an enameled band and expect it to last with everyday wear. A special occasion do nothing with my hands ring? Maybe.

Yeah, it’s going to be more of a men’s cocktail ring, so not for everyday wear!

I just noticed! Looks like from one frenchie to another!

I know. Frenchie owners have good taste in everything it seems!

Enamel does not like “impact” so hitting your ring (say the underside part) on something solid will crack / splinter the enamel (it’s like glass essentially). So on the top half of a ring as decoration, fine, with care, but having it all around the shank and on the underside is going to result in damage quite easily.

Okay. Advice taken.

Could you perhaps do a slim baguette Chanel set sapphire band for a similiar but more robust look? I think that would look fabulous.

Good idea!
